Announced yesterday were over 500 more cases than the day before at 3,389. And the latest test number down by nearly 2k.
Deaths 15
Active 24,478, up 2,271

Reflecting nationwide positivity up at 14% for July 17-21.

Location detail:

The NCR had 167 more cases than announced Thursday at 1,169. Its 6 largest cities 71 more at 693. QC 219, Manila 31 more at 143, Taguig 37 more at 124, Pasig 96, Paranaque 77, Caloocan 34.

NCR Positivity:

OCTA had predicted NCR positivity was about to peak..but...

Region CL up 42 to 380...Bulacan up 30 to 104, Pampanga 95.
For region 4A an increase of 165 on the day before to 797. Cavite up 116 to 283, Laguna 62 to 242, Rizal 147, Batangas 110.

These 3 regions down slightly with 69% of all cases.

Visayas cases up 80 to 471. CV the same at 175, WV up 51 to 232.
Cebu City 82, IloIlo City 66, Bacolod 12.

Mindanao cases up 15 to 162.
Davao City up 17 to 43.

Two interesting recent videos from Dr John Campbell.
This one on vaccines for 5-11 year olds.

Vaccine effectiveness declining rapidly over time. Singapore data from January 2022.
Though protection against severe disease is given policy makers need to balance that against adverse reactions.

US data presented by the reliable NY Times:

The benefit of vaccination still there in Omicron times, but greatly diminished.

Long Covid....the ONS with some laboratory confirmed UK data

The Omicron percentage a little less than Delta's, he says.

The child vaccinations is an interesting video but I can't help thinking Dr John is missing a trick. Ok there was 22 adverse events and 5 serious illnesses but not vaccinating would have prevented the 22 adverse reactions but how many would the hospitalizations gone up by.

Hardly any at all. From the data given only 30 kids out of 51,995 in the unvaccinated group were hospitalized. Very uunlikely to be seriously ill too as out of the only 5 kids in the study given supplemental oxygen just one was unvaccinated. They don't say if that kid was in intensive care, only that 4 of the 5 kids were.

Yesterday well over 200 more cases at 3,604. Latest daily test total up 1.6k to 23.1k.

QC up to 274, Manila up to 159, Taguig 121, Paranaque up 37 to 114, Pasig 100, Caloocan up 9 to 43.

Mindanao cases up 26 to 188..

Pushing ahead with covid boosters for all seemingly not the answer if you look at Australian and NZ data:

Australia well into second boosters roll out.

New Zealand will soon start second boosters to vulnerable groups. Note the high death rate.

Weekly update

Cases nationally showing some slowdown in growth...31% (57%).
A total of 18.581 cases.

But as shown yesterday NCR cases, total 6,892, are rising faster again.....last week by 35% (11%)
For its 6 largest cities:
Caloocan 39%
QC 35
Pasig 31
Taguig 31
Manila 17
Paranaque 13

Noting that Caloocan case numbers low at 202 last week.

So how did a national slowdown occur?

Mainly because both the CL and 4A regions showed slower growth:

Region CL 53% (72%) and 4A 33% (57%).
In the provinces of those two regions differing growth rates:
Bulacan 29% (83%), Pampanga 87%
Bataan also with growing case numbers. To be monitored starting this week.
Cavite 39%, (52%) Laguna 43% (59%), Rizal 69% (51%), Batangas 42% (30%).
Total cases 6,607.
Due to its high population the slowdown in Cavite most significant.

Contributing also in the Visayas region WV fell by 4% (rise of 51%). and CV rose by 40% (45%).
Overall 16% (43%) and total cases 2,039.
IloIlo City -20% (51%), Cebu City 47% (78%).

Mindanao overall 61% (54%)
Davao City 19% (46%), CDO City 30% (27%).
But total cases only 1,101.

Dr John presents Qatari data showing the size of the level of protection against reinfection by BA.5 especially if you already had previous Omicron infection.

A negative factor here that the percentage who have never had covid and especially any Omicron virus is much higher. The Omicron wave here earlier this year very moderate.

Yesterday cases rose by just over 50 to 3,657. The latest test number fell by 1.3k to 21.8k.
Deaths 13
Active 27,116, up 1,373

Location detail

The NCR with just 3 more cases at 1,327. Its 6 biggest cities 783 of them, down on the day before. QC 290, Manila 147, Paranaque 103, Taguig 100, Pasig 99.

The CL region down substantially to 347, Bataan 130, Pampanga 83, Bulacan 71
4A down a little to 911. Cavite 290, Laguna 253, Rizal 205, Batangas 130, cases.

These 3 regions with a lower 71% of all cases.

Visayas up over 100 to 520 cases.
CV up most.....by 67 to 189. WV up 13 to 243.
Cebu City up 20 to 77.

Mindanao up 21 to 209 cases..
Davao region up 44 to 68, SOCCSK up 17 to 41.
Davao City up 14 to 59.

Latest OCTA positivity report:

For last week.
NCR 16% Friday.

Davao del Norte EO to mandate 2 plus 2 vaccinations:

https://www.sunstar.com.ph/article/1...ed-vs-covid-19

Not to be followed in Davao City:

https://www.sunstar.com.ph/article/1...ealth-official

However I think if this BA.5 wave continues for many more weeks we may see some sort of national policy to try to get people to have more vaccination. BBM is still a believer, despite two covid infections, and the acting Health Secretary is too, despite always saying she is mostly monitoring hospital utilization and that is rising at a slow rate.

When vaccs cards were necessary to enter our local Savemore last year it was around half empty of shoppers most days. Even though in a semi rural area in region 4A claiming a high level of vaccination. I often wonder about significant under estimation of population numbers here.

Viewing todays SONA activities it was really good to see so many elected representative and senators showing a great example to the electorate by NOT wearing face masks.

Dr Susan Oliver worth watching on Youtube. A few of her videos have criticized Dr John.

Her latest one presents some US data (peer reviewed) showing a very clear benefit of childhood vaccination against hospitalization for fully vaccinated kids (second row). Unvaccinated first row. Although she does say that childhood hospitalization is relatively low. Though perhaps more distressing than in higher age groups.
She also gives good reasons for saying his interpretation of the Singapore data on adverse vaccine effects greatly over estimates the risk.
D John's video was mentioned and commented on here July 23.
