Re: OVER 50's & 60's Chit-Chat & Daily Catch-Up Thread

For those of you not in the UK there is a debate going on now about people in the US media and in broadcasting who have been taken off the air because of some comment they have made. The debate is over why some have been taken off the air and yet some other people have made far worse comments and yet they remain on the air.

I think it is obvious as to why there is a double standard.

Cheers

Hi Sally

So happy for your return, just wanted to wish you luck. I have been lurking for a number of months and your posts are always very positive and make me feel more positive.

I was wondering where you are moving to, I believe you've been away a long time, so there will be so much for you to explore:-)

Ive only been gone 6 months and I miss it like mad. Its so true that until you leave and really experience living (not holidays) in another country, then you realise what you had back home.

I'm very lucky in the fact that I am due home in a couple of years max, so there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I was viewing the news on the American network MSNBC and in the entertainment section something caught my eye and it was about the Britains Got Talent show on ITV in Britain. I looked it up and I found the segment on Charlotte and Jonathan. What a treat! Have a look, it will bring tears to your eyes.

Now follow that up with the appearance of the Welsh Choir called "Only Boys Aloud"

This should make your day.

Cheers

Thanks for the kind words! We're moving back to North Yorkshire - the Harrogate area. I am from Yorkshire and have truly yearned to go back to the county, but I was never lucky enough to live in North Yorkshire so this is a real treat and a completely new area to explore. We'll be surrounded by lovely countryside and pretty villages but we'll be on the train line to Leeds and York. We'll be 90 minutes from the coast and 60 minutes from the Yorkshire Dales. Brilliant!!

(Can you tell I'm excited?)

I plan to start a website when we return for homesick ex-pats. We'll post videos, photos and reviews of the places we go - hopefully it will brighten the days of people who are homesick the way I have been.

Oh I just heard those Boys singing Calon Lan a friend in Wales linked them on you facebook. I had to turn it off, they are lovely, but anyone with a good voice singing Calon Lan or Ar hyd yr Nos or the National anthem and I'm all blubbery. How sad am I?

I visited Torquay last week - here are the photos I took:

and then I visited Mells, Somerset on Monday:

The latest photos of Mells are at the end of the set of photos, showing the Mells Walled Garden. Enjoy - it was a glorious, sunny spring day - daffodils are all out in their glory.

Sally you must be soooooo excited, I feel it all with you, having gone through it all myself, its such a fantastic feeling to know that its all actually going to happen, going back home ------- for good, ----- nothing like it :)

Even though British comedy isn't like it used to be ;)

That reminds me of that great English/cockney song ------ THINGS AINT WHAT THEY USED TO BE, DA DA DA DA DA DA DA, DA DA DA DA DA DA DA, DA DA DA DA DA DA DA. :D
