Who remembers...........

I was 11 and my parents couldn't afford a bike (all my mates had cool racers and so on) so my nan bought "herself!" a bike and then said I could use it to take my proficiency test.
Problem was it was a raleigh shopper with like a white leather bag on the front and when we all got to school my mates were laughing (obviously as I was on a granny bike but what the hell!) they opened the basket and there was a pair of tights in there
very embarrassing but supremely funny
Edited to add just googled a pic of the beast and it had the bag on the back (thought it was the front but thats what getting old does for you) now i have a big smile on my face remembering that day - awww cheers for this thread

I've got a tupperware container full of my Brownie, Guide and gymnastics cloth badges that I painstakingly sewed myself onto my uniform and leotards.
I've got a file with certificates in it as well including the swimming ones.
First a width - then a length and can't remember the other - maybe it was proficiency.
I remeber having to dive in the deep end and pick up a "brick" from the pool floor and swimming round the pool and then making a float wearing a pair of pyjamas !

All I remember is getting my pj's on - going to the side of the pool, then thinking - what a bloody ridiculous thing to be doing - so going and sitting on the bench and refusing!!!!
I'm sure a detention followed that ...........

Phoning the local pub to ask the barmaid if anyone's seen Mike Hunt.

Green Silly Slime or whatever it was called (the stuff you could put on your head for a maximum of about 10 seconds before it soaked into your hair and your mum would have to wash it out with vinegar before finding out its probably easier and better to use the scissors and cut the bugger out

getting 'news' late...................
I flew to the USA in 1978 on the day of an England v Scotland footie match.
I phoned the British Embassy to see if anyone knew the result and I called British Airways too. Nobody could tell me.
I eventually found it a few days later tucked away in a newspaper.
Contrast that with now, when the very least you get is an online update just a few seconds after the event.
