Who remembers the Austin Maxi as well. With the back seats down you could fit a mattress in the back of the estate.

Gasp.....Virol...yuck. My aunt thought I was far too thin and used to give me a tablespoon full of the horrid stuff evertime I visited her...which was several times a week.

Scotts Emulsion...again yuck.

Liberty bodices yep I remember them...and the rubber buttons. Felt so grown up when I no longer had to wear them.

I used to lurvee liquorice root.

Oh yes, I had forgotten Milletts - we had one in Croydon and I loved looking in there. I took horse riding lessons and I wanted one of those hard black velvet hats in the worst way!

I think Millets is still around, isn't it? Gone upmarket a bit, like BHS.

Ah, the good old days.

It has always racked me off that the scene in Quadrophenia showing the Mods approaching Brighton over the Downs wasn't shot anywhere near Brighton. Eastbourne, I think.

I remember going down to the Ford showrooms in London in 1960 to pick up a new Ford Anglia my dad had ordered from Canada before he came home.
