240 (20 shillings in a pound and 12 pennies to a shilling) 21shillings in a guinea (wasnt it).
I remember getting paid 10 shillings a week as a paper boy for WH Smiths in Beeston station. Nice 10 bob note. I have my last pay before switch to decimalisation did for the 10 bob note. A Beautiful Note, remember them?

- I remember 144 pennies in a pound
- Learning about guineas in maths class
- Learning logs, sin and cosin on a slide rule
- Andy Pandy and Muffin the Mule
- Playing out meant playing out, for hours, without parental supervision
- silver six shooters with caps, bows and "arrers,"
- doing some light shopping for my mum when I was only 8
Getting the cane at school, and the strap again when I got home!

Believe it or not but when I came to Ontario I had to fill out a form in the liquor store indicating what I wanted to buy from a list of available products. I then took it to a counter where a clerk took it to a storage room out of the public site and returned with the purchase.

Toilet paper (hard, shiny stuff) that had "now wash your hands please" printed at the perforated edge of each sheet.
Bags of Tate & Lyle sugar that had "untouched by human hand" on the tab.
Going on steam trains, putting your head out of the window when you went through a tunnel. Getting covered in soot.
Window cleaners that came around once a fortnight to clean windows up and down.
Sooty & Sweep; Andy Pandy; Bill & Ben (and Little Weed); Woodentops.
A & B buttons on pay phones.
"Turn it over to the other side" when there was finally an alternative to BBC tv.
Not showing my age at all, am I?
