240 (20 shillings in a pound and 12 pennies to a shilling) 21shillings in a guinea (wasnt it).

I remember getting paid 10 shillings a week as a paper boy for WH Smiths in Beeston station. Nice 10 bob note. I have my last pay before switch to decimalisation did for the 10 bob note. A Beautiful Note, remember them?

That's not a 10 bob note.

This http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/bankn...eriesA-3rd.htm is a 10 bob note.

Yes I remember getting sent out with a list of groceries which was then wrapped around some money (to give to the lady) and had to tow my 5 year old sister with me. I was 7! We would be on the "at risk" register nowadays!

We lived right across the road from the Co-op. I used to take the shopping list to the counter for the gentleman to get from the shelves and the back room and put in the shopping bag my Mum had given me. No money involved: my Mum would pop in once a month or so and pay off the tab.

I was about 7 as well.

Believe it or not but when I came to Ontario I had to fill out a form in the liquor store indicating what I wanted to buy from a list of available products. I then took it to a counter where a clerk took it to a storage room out of the public site and returned with the purchase.

Don't want to get too serious in what's essentially a light thread, but remember that growing old is a privilege denied to many people.

Toilet paper (hard, shiny stuff) that had "now wash your hands please" printed at the perforated edge of each sheet.

Bags of Tate & Lyle sugar that had "untouched by human hand" on the tab.

Going on steam trains, putting your head out of the window when you went through a tunnel. Getting covered in soot.

Window cleaners that came around once a fortnight to clean windows up and down.

Sooty & Sweep; Andy Pandy; Bill & Ben (and Little Weed); Woodentops.

A & B buttons on pay phones.

"Turn it over to the other side" when there was finally an alternative to BBC tv.

Not showing my age at all, am I?
