Constantly. It got to be a much better job when the boards were replaced with digital ones, then we could put callers on the speakers for everyone to enjoy. Amazing how many obscene callers there were and how obscene they were.

Deliveries made by horse and cart - the Co-op had a fine huge cart full of goodies and a huge horse - as did Vaux breweries.
They were watched carefully coming down the road by anyone with an allotment...bucket and shovel in hand, to be the first to collect manure for their leeks!

Actually I remember a lot the previous things - my kids still laugh when I say you cant call till after 6pm - I remember putting the phone down really quietly so my parents didnt hear the click and tell me off for being on the ohone too long or at the wrong time!
