omigod, Quatermass. Giant ants in the sewers of London. I used to have nightmares! That was followed by Dave King's show on Saturday night.
All the dogs in the neighbourhood ran loose, and belonged to all us kids.
Playing Knock out Ginger.
Being out all day and only coming home when we were hungry. So safe back then.

Anyone remember those old black phones in the phone boxes - they had a bar at the top which you could press to disconnect the phone. Only if you were in the know - you could actually get free phone calls with it -- you just had to press the bar the appropriate number of times! Of course, in those days you had to dial things like DOWnlands 123. So you had to press the bar 3 times for D and 6 times for 0 and so on. You had to be careful when you did it outside the Law Courts on the Strand because there were quite a few cops around!!

My Dad bought a lock for our phone so you couldn't dial out....I would press the top buttons and call everyone
He never worked out how it happened

And if you worked in the Strand/Aldwych, you could go to the Lyceum at lunch time and dance for sixpence!!
And milk bottles had those cardboard tops with a hole in the middle and you could clean them up and wind wool around them and make those woolen bobbles. Then you had to knit the hat and the bobbles hung from the top!

We used to buy a pack of 5 Park Drive...sometimes Woodbines.
I'm sure the Park Drive ones came as a pack of five but I also remember the woman taking 5 out of a 10 pack and selling us the five.
I remember about 10 years ago a kid asked me to get him a 'single' from the shop. I thought he meant a 7 inch record.

The tanning stain that ladies used on their legs during the war as all nylon was in the parachutes.
