Pardew must be happy with an 8 yr contract knowing if the Toon want rid of him he will have a big pay day. An enormous amount of faith giving any PL manager an 8 yr contract. Any suggestions for a new name for the stadium in light of this announcement? Back to Sid James Park me thinks. http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/n...140825817.html |

Even more outrage at the Wonga deal.
http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/n...006117.html?nc Maybe the questions that need to be asked are do any of the PL stars feel guilty about how much they receive a week regardless of their religion? Will those 4 players mentioned refuse to wear the shirt in support of the MCB? |

I know it's different for footballers, but if you refused to wear your uniform (or wore inappropriate clothing), you could end up getting fired. I doubt any club would sell a player for this, but they'd almost certainly fine him a few thousand quid. |

Depends on whether they want to play football in my opinion. Their employer provides a uniform as part of their employment, and requires said uniform to be worn at times during their employment (there's prabably an FA, UEFA or FIFA directive in there as well). If they refuse to wear the uniform provided, then the employer probably has a disciplinary process they can follow.

So finally it looks like a decision is going to be made on Anfailed. They are going to plough 145 million into a redevelopment rather than go ahead with a new stadium.
http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/l...094202089.html I tend to think most will be happy and hope that none of the residents want to stay and delay the redevelopment. According to some of the comments it will make a brilliant Championship ground and the best one is that the new iPhone 5 with its longer screen actually now shows their PL position  |

Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread
So where does your team stack up in so far as costs of going to a match if you were back in the UK?
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...ars-rises.html I remember paying 2 pound fifty to stand on the Stretford End but cant remember what a tea, bovril or pie cost but probably less than a quid for both. WTF 4 quid for a pie at a Kidderminster Harriers game and they arent even a proper League club. There again compared to some of the NFL matches some might consider it a deal. $10 to $12 a beer or even a frigging hot dog. |
Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread
15 quid to see NUFC seems reasonable compared to the rest, especially Reading (unless that's for a seat with an obstructed view?)

Ok, I get it (/facepalm)
15 quid because you get to sit behind the obese, shirtless, noisy geordie who fools around like Mr. Blobby for the entire duration of the match.

I accept that Tiote is a robust defensive midfielder who did pick up 11 yellow cards last season (no reds though). That was a travesty, only made worse by the ref ignoring a clear handball in the penalty area two minutes later. If I may quote from the Guardian's minute by minute report ... "20 mins: Still no bookings, though Seb Larsson could really have been punished for fairly gratuitously kicking Ameobi in the chest. The free-kick, from 35 yards out, is arrowed towards goal by Cabayé – never likely to beat Mignolet, but impossible to catch as it dipped under the crossbar, so he tipped it over. The corner is put back behind his own goal by Gardener, but the referee thinks it's a goal kick. 25 mins: RED CARD FOR TIOTÉ! Tioté tussles with Colback for possession. Fletcher nips in front and takes the ball, and Tioté's studs take his shin. It wasn't horribly violent, but it was nasty. And the really strange thing is, it all ends with a Newcastle free kick. 26 mins: So Newcastle had been awarded a free-kick for Colback's hassling of Tioté before the stud attack that followed, making the red card offence even less explicable. Anyway, the ball is sent into the penalty area where Seb Larsson very deliberately controls it with his left arm. Newcastle appeal but neither the referee nor Sky's commentators are impressed." Referree. Bent, bent I tells yer. |

Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread
Tiote has got away with shockers before (like just about every other defensive midfielder), and it was definitely a booking, but I was genuinely surprised it was a straight red. I was equally surprised that Larsson wasn't booked for the (accidental) studs to Shola's chest/neck, and it took Cabaye so long to get booked (after Tiote was sent off though). I wasn't sure if it was black and white goggles, but I don't think it's my bias coming through?
