Most players will state their dissatisfaction and request and move and the club is then able to listen to offers and recoup their investment. Take Nasri, Van Persie and Modric as examples. Spurs accepted a 22 million pound bid from Juventus and a similar bid from United. Campbell refused to talk and sat his contract out for a huge wad of cash upfront and a fatter salary. That 22 million could have rebuilt a poor team in that era. The man is unforgivable. |

If Sinclair doesn't sign this week, he's likely to go. We have let contracts run down and lose players for nothing (De Vries and Pratley recently), it depends if you believe keeping the player for one last season is worth more than cashing in. For your choices for the end of season's table, Swansea's far too low, Sunderlands too high, Newcastle's too low and Liverpools too high. |

This was not intentional. I expect them to be somewhere in the mix for 4th or 5th. I do think City will win again and a bit more convincingly this time than their final day triumph last year. |

However i would put Terry above King simply as he has performed on the big stage in big matches where as King because of injury just hasn't. Only time i can remember King putting a great performance was against France in the opening game of Euro 2004. Terry and Cole kept England in Euro 2012 on their own. When those two played together they were fantastic. It only happened a dozen or so times although one of these was a memorable league cup performance against a very good Chelsea team. You take the rough with the smooth. If King had never had injury problems he would've ended up at United or Madrid- we would not have got some extra games out of him at Spurs. |

I'm surprised Sessegnon hasn't been bought for big bucks by a bigger club
If he stays at the SoL they'll probably finish at least half a dozen places higher than without him this season.

By this do you mean a team with all English players English owned English managed If so it aint going to happen. My not so scientific predictions 1. Manchester club City or Utd 2. The other Manchester club that didnt finish 1st 3. Chelski After that it will be Spurs, Arsenal, Newcastle and Liverpool fighting for 4,5,6 & 7th spots. |
Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread
Can anyone convince me, with good reasons, why spurs and Newcastle will have a good season this year?
I just don't see it. New manager at spurs, Modric unrest. Bale is still there (and I'm wondering why and what his attitude will be like this season). I don't think Newcastle have much depth in their team. Ba has forgotten how to score goals. I wouldn't put money on Cisse getting the same amount of chances and having the same form as last season. I'm going for: 1 Chelsea (based on transfer activity this summer) 2 Man City 3 Man United 4 Arsenal 5 Liverpool 6 Sunderland 7 Everton 8 Tottenham 9 Fulham 10 Newcastle 11 Stoke 12 Aston villa 13 QPR 14 West Brom 15 Norwich 16 Wigan 17 Southampton 18 Swansea 19 Reading 20 West Ham |

I also think that they are need of a young ball winning midfielder. That is why I have them at 3rd. I think City will improve on last season as their squad will be more gelled. The rumor mill has it that we are in for a big transfer weekend at White Hart Lane. As it stands I am a little gloomy about the start of the season as we have only one striker on the books Defoe and Scott Parker is injured and Modric is on his way. This leaves us short up front and in the center of midfield. I'm amazed you have Liverpool doing so well. I just don't think their team frightens anyone on paper these days. |
Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread
Me too, it was due more to an inclination based on the performance of the teams below them, rather than anything to do with their abilities. Suarez seems to be their key player imo, if he can keep his form consistently all season, they'll do OK (so long as he can keep his opinions to himself).
I really enjoyed what I saw of Tottenham last season and I'm hoping they can get that fifth spot this year. So, as soon as they settle into the new leadership and team-up (make the want-aways happy or get rid of them) then I will displace Liverpool with that far more worthy club.

Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread
the reason chelsea had such a poor league position last year was more to do with not being able to break 'lesser' teams down.
they played to their best on the break when teams came at them. as soon as a team dug in, AVB had no plan b and the midfield just kept trying to go through the middle of the defence and kept giving the ball away. the damage was done early on in the season and when RDM took over, the team were obviously concentrating on other competitions. they have signed these new players to try and give them a bit of an oomph in getting the ball to torres IMO. as for spurs - well they have AVB now so with no modric, parker getting on a bit and Adebeyor gone. I think they may struggle a bit. |

Only the two Manchester clubs conceded fewer if memory serves... On the otherhand those two also scored twice as many goals, so like you say.. top 4 would be nice, but you have to start somewhere. |

Never mind trivia like points and league position eh:) Anyway, why do they always fill the blank league table alphabetically? Liverpool in 6th, Arsenal on top. Makes more sense to do it based on last seasons finishing positions I think. To be honest I think maybe it confuses Arsene Wenger, it would explains his lack of summer transfer activity every year "Im top of the table over the entire summer, so no need to spend big"... |
