The Toon Army / EPL thread

I've had a good few PM's from Geordie expats and would-be expats since I adopted Big Al as a sig-pic.

Posty on here for all things Toon related or general EPL chatteriness.

Well this one isn't as popular as the State of Emergency thread, is it?

Give it time. Like the Toon, it's a Sleeping Giant and a Massive Thread which has The Best Fans in the World.

If you've adopted Big Al as you sig, can you do one of his innovative post goal celebrations and prove to be as rivetting a half time commentator as he has proven to be.

I used to watch Newcastle regularly when I was a youngster. My Uncle was (and still is) a season ticket holder and before he had his own kids I was the best excuse he had. This was back in the days of Wyn Davies and Pop Robson.

I moved to South London when I was 19 and sort of adopted Crystal Palace.

Sorry.

ID has a lot to answer for!! Nah, there was one muppet who chucked a beer bottle onto the pitch, the whole stand pointed him out as they don't want the authorities to ban alcohol or that because of a few wannabe-casuals

Up the Toon, we celebrated with the lads in Newcastle on Saturday, watched the game got very drunk, had a bad head on Sunday. Way to go.

Yes, a massive, massive victory. Although it was possibly the worst match ever played in the EPL, we got the points. 'N thass all tha' marrers.

Gan on the Toon! We've got the mighty Derby at St. James's on next.

<can they bugger that up?>

Edit: I've just been over to the grauniad site, and it says there that {{{l'il mickey}}} is stilled crocked after all. We'll have to face the Mighty Rams without him. For the seven hundredth time since he was signed.

My daughter asked if he'd left cos he never plays:frown:

What do you mean by "when"? We've always been shit. Always will be. But very sweet smelling, attractive shit. Part of the charm of being a Geordie.

Have your lot ever been shit? Will you ever be? Or will you simply redefine "we", should that occur again?

From Whitley Bay eh? When I was a tot in the '50's that was our summer holiday. Me dad would drive us three kids, me mam and me nanna from Westerhope along the old coast road to Whitley Bay for a week in a boarding house. It would rain steadily for days and then he'd come and pick us all up again.

i was raised on a Diet of John Jensen and Glenn Helder, so yes- we have been sh$t.

I actually yearn for those dark days when you could actually still get a ticket on match day.

Hmmm. I've obviously been away far too long. It seems britishvixen and celine are referring to a BBC TV programme rather than an address. 1989-1994 apparently. Who knew?

I wonder where these two are from?

If yer Geordies give us a sing of "Fog on the Tyne".

Altogether now, "we can have a wee wee, we can have a piss on the wall". That, curiously, was the first full priced album I bought. It had to be specially ordered in Burnt Oak.

Lyrical genius that Jimmy Alun Hull. For years I misheard "the spittle from his twisted lips ran down to his bowtie" (from the solo album with a Magritte on the cover) as "ran to his glass eye" which made me wonder about physics in Newcastle.

Did you know that the mandolin player, Simon someone, is brewer someone around the GTA now? He's in the Feathers now and then. On one occasion I ran into all the living members of one version of the band in O'Farrell's - they were, of course, unintelligible.

True story: I've performed in the same folk club on the same evening as Alun Hull; me mangling Dylan and him doing his own stuff, pre-Lindesfarne. He was better than me.

On the studio original. On the live album it's not bowdlerized.

I see. I always thought the alliteration in the phrase was what makes it stand out.

I loved it for the vulgarity, as a youth it spoke to me of a world of ruffians beyond the North Circular.
