That was a surprise. Hope that means Ashley Young is going to Spurs.

That would be a great signing.

With Ahsley Young, Bale and Lennon we'd be lethal on the break.

Well, that's lower than I thought they'd sink. I guess next pre-season's training is Gary Glitter's Thailand Tour? :p

Watched MOTD2 on BBC iplayer last night. Seemed a good entertaining start to the season. Certainly, in terms of entertainment its no contest between the EPL and the World Cup.

Everton have got an interesting away strip this season.

Two howlers from two world class keepers (Howard and Riena). Joe Hart looks promising - hopefully City will let Given go so he gets to play regularly.

What the hell happened to Aston Villa?

That's gonna put a dent in my Fantasy Football team! :p

They were plucky losers against a team with real class of course.

Liverpool looked so bad that you just pity them now. They'll be mid table at best or more likely be in a relegation battle.

The transfer window is now shut until Jan, a bit of a disappointment for Spurs as now we are in the Champions League I was hoping to get Messi or Thomas Müller but no luck we only got some Russian goalie.

Weekend football

Just as the weekend TV footie seemed to be settling into a pattern of the early TSN2 game followed by bySetanta/Sportsnet offering a choice of two "3.00" kick offs and then the new Sportsnet One for the "tea time" game it all changes this weekend.

The early game - Everton-ManU - is listed as Setanta.

Then we have a choice of three games from the 3.00 kick offs.

West Ham-Chelsea on TSN2/RDS
Arsenal-Bolton on Sportsnet
Man City-Blackburn on Setanta (again)

There's no tea time game and Sunday it's just Brum-Liverpool on Setanta.

We really are lucky these days as between Saturday morning and Monday afternoon all 10 games will be on in full.....this is much better than in the UK and cheaper.

The people I feel sorry for are those who only get Fox Sports World Canada...now there is a crap channel....australian footie, us college footie, and 1 or 2 Seria A games/week....plus endless repeats of the Fox Soccer Report, which is rather sophmoric at times.

I don't imagine there are many...at least not many interested in footie anyway.

The 'Report' was still a handy way of catching goals missed and there is the sky sports news hour too. I did keep it on for those but the quality of streams is good enough not to bother anymore.

I've even taken to watching MOTD on line occasionally.

Wow...you are right...

http://footballtvcanada.blogspot.com/

maybe the talk about their demise won't turn out after all.

Caught a few minutes today on Setanta of an old game circa 1997 Newcastle/Aston Villa...with Yorke/Staunton playing for Aston Villa and Ginola/Lee and Mr. Personality playing for the Bar Codes.

I've enjoyed Wednesday's Carling Cup 3rd Rd results tonight.

Man City beaten 2-1 by West Brom, Chelsea beaten 4-3 by Newcastle, and Liverpool beaten 4-2 on penalties by Northampton Town after being 2-2 at the end of extra-time.

Maybe if Sir Alex could go back to feudal times and publicly flog the likes of Carrick and Anderson the team wouldn't lose concentration in the second half. Rooney is already being pilloried so we're halfway there!

Rooney is on his way by all accounts.

I think the end of the "Sky 4" is finally upon us.

Liverpool Football Club are no where and Manchester United and Arsenal face a realistic possibility of not finishing in the top 4 thanks to the re-emergance of their city rivals Spurs and City.

The game needs the change.

If they didn't have the wonder of Roy Hodgson at the helm and the ageless skills of Joe Cole, they'd in the relegation zone.

Too late!! They're already there after the defeat to Everton. :p

At least Liverpool are rid of their Yanks. Oh wait, they've got another set to replace them.

I think eight games in the season is premature to write any of the top half of table off. Maybe after another twenty games you'd have a good point.

I agree that Liverpool are in serious trouble, and I don't recall any team fighting a relegation battle at this stage qualifying for Europe at the end of the season.

I hope he stays but in reality it will never be the same after all of this weeks news about his desire to leave.

Doesn't seem to be a problem for Arsenal and Fabregas.

Or Terry and Lampard come to that, although maybe their "want away" desire was less.
