Fat chance of that with Ashley in charge.

You know what he thinks?

Id say there is likely a difference between what he thinks and what he says publicly at a press conference where he acknowledged he has his work cut out to win over the fans after the way the previous incumbent was treated...

He has a good point about Newcastle being the largest city with only one team, the potential to be top five is there I would say. Maybe not with Ashleys idiosyncratic brand of chairmanship though.

A point I've made repeatedly at various points in this thread, usually when dismissing a certain group of supporters claim that "United" means that poncy lot from the midlands.

Being a top five team is not their natural character. They had a brief dalliance with success in the late 90s but I think they have gone back to their more traditional role of bouncing between leagues.

Doh! When United was founded City didn't exist! What were they supposed to do when City got started, change their name to Divided?

BTW the barcodes have virtually guaranteed their dismissal to the fizzy pop league. The only thing worse they could have done would be to bring Shearer or Keegan back as Manager.:sneaky:

There you go again Mr President. When United were founded City didn't exist and it still doesn't. Please refer to that lot as either Manchester United or ManUre like the rest of us do.

The Leeds version of the franchise has had its day. Newcastle seem determined to emulate them. Your day will come. Don't get cocky.

Well our attendance went up when we dropped into the Second Division - and we came storming back.

Banter aside.

It was great to see Newcastle back where they belong. It's a pity about the rampant plonkerism that seems to inhabit the board room.

Great result for the Toon this evening.......and a nice start for Pardew..although given Liverpool's away record not in any way a shock

Agreed. But the difference was that Nolan and Barton were back. not that the fat cockney bastard betrays a hint of sanity.

If the team doesn't implode under Pardew (and today suggests it won't), then once they get Collocini (or even Williamson) back and can bench Campbell, I think they'll be OK.

I expect Chris Hughton will get the job at Anfield.

If they can be top with Rooney playing like a twonk then the rest of you are doomed.

Hughton to West Ham
Hodgson can't last much longer - I wonder if he could have a second stint at Blackburn then
Liverpool - thats the one Jol and O'Neill are waiting for

Is Collocini really that good...when I've seen Newcastle on TV he didn't look that impressive....who was the guy who got a red card about 2 weeks ago for the blatent elbow to the neck of the opponent (running down the right wing of the attacking team)...now that guy was a thug. The ref had to consult with the linesman for confirmation.

I had thought Collocini was okay but I remember the incident you've described where he got sent off. I can't remember who they were playing but it was certainly within the last month. He had been passed easily and caught out of position a few times before loosing it completely and elbowing someone in the face.

By that logic Cantona cant have been very good eh?, or Zidane:confused:

That was against Bolton and Collocini had an all round shocker that day. Normally he's distinctly more competent and although not a world beater he's good enough to have been capped for Argentina. There are worse centre backs in the Prem; Sol effing Campbell springs to mind.

The "big" countries should boycott the World Cup: it's become a vehicle for social engineering according to the vision of FIFA.

The World Cup should be about the game, not the Host.

Looks like there is a "home championship" with Rep Ireland instead of England being held in Dublin. Would it be popular with England as a 6 nations type event with home advantage alternating each year?

This looks like an article from the Daily Mail, Scotttish Football Association say they have not even been asked about the return of the British Championship yet.

An SFA spokesperson said: "We haven't been consulted yet but it is an interesting idea and we would obviously hope to be part of any discussions should the opportunity come along."

My dream is that it will end with them as a mid table side in the Championship with a succession of ex players taking them there as manager.... I also dream of them making it a full 40 years before they win their next title.........but I am biased...
