Today I can savour the early cup exit of the reed-and-white stripey buggars. Tomorrow I will no doubt be mourning a similar fate for the bastard offspring of Wor Jackie Milburn at the hands of the proud sons of Sir Stanley Matthews.

Fingers crossed anyway.

You mean like bolt from heaven that vapourizes BSA before half-time? We can always hope. What's the weather forecast for Stoke?

At least we don't have to worry about the 'Scouse Mouse' throwing himself around the pitch!!! He'll be too busy getting massages and therapy at Britains Best Spa, Oh and his £40Grand a week (all that and he gets to beat up 16 year olds!! - wot a tuff guy!!):frown:

The one good thing to come out of wednesday night was that Jimmy played on the right(his position) and Duff on the left (his position) - together with Shay in goal that was three players in there chosen positions!!!(Whatever next?)

And then BSA pulls Duff off and sends on a left back. Within 10 minutes 0-2. The man's a genius.

Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread

Duff, up until that point, had by a mile been our best player on th pitch and looked like the only one that might create a goal!!

Even Jimmy (who so far has been my player of the season) had been having a stinker, I think he must have been struggling to come to terms with playing in his position.

Yes, i think BSA's chosen substitution had about 50,000 fans scratching their heads!!

With a bit luck we will now see the back of Martins who seems destined for Sven's revolution at Eastlands.

Has he been that bad? I have (had?) a high regard for Obafemi. (No, Sam, he's not a rightwinger). Still he's off to the Africa Cup soon. Knowing our luck he'll come back crocked...maybe it's better to have some other club take the risk.

:thumbdown:Absolutely disgusting!!!!

Yes we know BSA has played peeps out of position and everyone else has just got on with it and tried to do their best - however Mr.M seems to think he is above it and 'petulant' is an understatement!!:frown:

I don't think i have ever seen seen a toon player look so un-interested - even on wednesday night, when he was given his big chance to show us his stuff up front.

Well, that's not good of course. But I can see two ways to fix it. Get shot of Mr. M or get shot of Mr. A. I'm clear in my preference.

BTW, I was just checking the squad membership at nufc.com and I don't see that Spanish wanker Albert "Lucky" Luque on the list. Was someone daft enough to pay a couple of dollars for the cretin? (It was your "most uninterested player" comment that reminded me of that 9.5 million pound cock-up).

you certainly are, and i would love dearly to side with you ( and i suppose deep inside i do!!) but i, along with so many others, am sick to death of the 'well it's not working so sack the manager' attitude we have had for too many years at SJP.

Where would Old Trafford be if they had taken the same stance after Fergie's dismal start?

I know that the people who sit in my vacinity on match days have a similar opinion.

Yes it's difficult at the mo, but unless they can attract the likes of Jose and give him an open cheque book to spend at will, who else is there???

Yeabut, who was the last manager to bring silver back to Toon (aside from that Inter-Toto Cup thingy)? Joe Harvey, that's who. And he was in the job for 13 seasons.

Since then only KK and Sor Bibby have been anything other than incompetent dross.

Do you think it's better to blow 9.5 million ( minus an undisclosed fee from Ajax, probably tuppence) on Luque or to spend that over a couple of years on a decent manager?

(My ticket in the old stand was seat 3E, just level with the six yard box at the Leazes End and three rows above the Paddock).

The only one to lift spirits would be the 'Special One', but he would want big funds.

I, for some strange reason, think he would fancy it as well - even though we are a long way from the fancy boutiques of Knightsbridge, etc....

The Bobby link might just do it.

Well, the Toon eeked out a 0-0 at Stoke.

BSA survives until the next embarrassment (losing the replay at home).

I can't look.

Oh, Jesus H. Christ! I've just seen the draw for the 4th round of the FA Cup.

If we somehow manage to beat mighty Stoke in the replay at St. James' on Jan 16th, our reward is getting tonked by Arsenal at the Emirates in the next round.

What's the point of this?:mad::mad:

I for one do not want to see Mr Charisma, Allan Shearer, becoming the coach at NUFC. Whenever I see that inane goal celebration and his elbows a flying play inside the penalty box I want to throw something at the screen. His sense of entitlement beggars belief. Putting him and Ian Wright together on the BBC is a recipe for disaster.

Sack BSA and get someone in who knows how football should be played. I'd suggest Harry Redknapp with former Arsenal defender Tony Adams as his assistant. Both are currently at Portsmouth who are currently in 8th position in the EPL, 8 points above Newcastle. There are only 5 points seperating Portsmouth from 4th place in the league so a good run of results and dropped points by Aston Villa, Everton, Liverpool and Man City could see Pompey in the Champion's League next season.

UEFA Cup is a definite possibility for them if Arsenal or Chelski are both in the FA Cup final as the UEFA Cup place for the winner would go to 7th spot in the EPL.

Good luck against Stoke, and see you at the Emirates (hopefully).

Surely we're not that desperate?

Sorry mate, 'Arry and Tony going nowhere!!!

We've had the guts ripped out of our side with the African Nations Cup though so who knows what'll happen. Mind you we do have a run of reasonable games ahead of us, and like the above poster mentioned, 7th place looks pretty achievable right now!

Come on Newcastle, my Fantasy Football team's doing pi$$ poor thanks to picking a couple of your lads!!! =(

/QUOTE]

You get what you pay for. When a team like Portsmouth buy African players whose national teams don't play at the same teams as UEFA countries, then you have to realize that a sizeable portion of your players will be called away. I find this attitude/position of EPL managers to be incredulous.

It has to be Shearer doesn't it?

I don't know if he would succeed. I'd love it if he did, but suspect it will all be too much.

However, until Shearer has his chance I can't see the club giving anyone the time they need to rebuild the team in their own image. c/f Arsenal and Manure.

I dunno. You might be right, but I don't have a good feeling about it.

On the other hand, most of us are old enough to remember Kevin Keegan in the job. Wouldn't something like that happening again be nice?

i think Mike's phone call has already been made. The odds on Rafa went from 33-1 to 40-1 in the last five minutes.

Somebody somewhere knows something. :)
