Shameless self promotion.

Anyone care to speculate on relegations and promotions yet?

For relegation from the premiership, I'm thinking two teams, names beginning with 'W" and one team, name beginning with "B".

Probably Blackpool.

Here're the Championship standings, below. A good mate of mine, Norwich supporter, and I went to a couple of their home games- they did a lot of great 'one-touch' passing back then, and Delia was present in the ground. Isn't she marvellous? And it's been a long time since Forest were in the top-flight, too long.

Team P GD PTS
1 QPR 44 38 85
2 Norwich 44 24 80
3 Cardiff 44 25 79
4 Swansea 44 21 74
5 Reading 44 25 73
6 Nott'm Forest 44 12 69
7 Millwall 44 17 67
8 Burnley 44 5 67
9 Dirty Scum Leeds 44 9 66

I'd agree with the prem relegation choices, and also with the idea that Forest would be a welcome addition for next year.

The playoff system for the third spot is silly IMHO, but it would only be fair that if Nottingham finish in 6th this year, after finishing 3rd last season on 79 points, they repeat the jam that got Blackpool promoted then after they finished 6th on 70 points.

Edit: having said that I think Cardiff deserve it more.

I've often planned to write a letter to those in charge, telling them to turn the playoffs into a more elaborate summer cash-cow event. The top four teams could play each other way more than once, perhaps twice or even six or seven times in as many consecutive days. With aggregate scores there could be comedy value here, too.

Or (slightly less silly idea), I say relegate four teams but put them all in a summer cup or league with the top four Championship teams- all playing for the four premiership places. This would gave the clubs a bit more cash (parachute or golden handshake), give us some extra entertainment and could mean the better teams stay/go up.

Yes, or just promote Cardiff. Keep things simple. Increment the count of Welsh teams in the EPL to two , good.

You should apply for the job of NHL Commissioner. This one is the pits.

Just promote Cardiff yes, then we could call it the WELP.

Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread

I have devoted quite sometime on improving the English game and these were my suggestions for bringing value back to the competitions.

1/ Get rid of the 4th Champions League spot and give it to the FA Cup. Make 4th and 5th Premier League spots UEFA Cup.

2/ Teams in Europe are kept out of the League Cup. That way they have less fixtures to focus on Europe and a team not in Europe has the chance to qualify for the UEFA Cup- thus making sure there is a new English club in Europe on the adventure every season. Some one like Birmingham City would appreciate the UEFA Cup more than say City, United or Spurs.

You would be surprised how long that took me- but I genuinely feel all 3 competitions would be more interesting if the above was done.

Lastly I wish they would just call it Division 1, 2, 3 and 4 again. It is bizarre that the Championship is a better name than the Premiership for the second tier and that the first division is infact the third tier.

I can't believe i wanted manure to win today, but they did, and fingers crossed they can seal the EPL next week and play the reserves against Blackpool on their last game.

A special shout out to Southampton who have successfully returned to the Championship. Semi relevant to this thread as the Championship supplies the Premiership with 3 teams a season.

That would indeed be nice (however unlikely). More important though is that your reserves beat Blackpool in the last match.

I have my reasons. :)

It's not that bad. If Birmingham lose and Wigan does no better than draw, you can stay up with a draw against Man. U reserves.

Personally, I'd like to have the bottom 14 (fourteen) teams relegated this season for being unremarkable on a spectacular level.

Is that too much to ask for? No.

I think this idea has merit but is slightly unsustainable.

Blackpool have to fight to the death. It's highly plausible that if they only lose by a goal to Manchester United and Birmingham are comfortably beaten by Spurs they could still stay up as the goal difference is fairly tight.

Even if Brum lose 1-0 and Blackpool draw (and Wigan don't win) I believe Blackpool stay up since they'd then have the same GD but Blackpool have scored a lot more goals (I think that's the tiebreaker?).

Yes goals scored is I think the next item on the wrung.

It's not so much Blackpool- the place or the team that I particularly care about but I personally would love to see Ian Holloway stay in the Premier League- he is easily the most entertaining individual for a while.

Infact if Blackpool go down Spurs should fire Harry and hire Ian Holloway.

Or even better Holloway for England!
