EWven though I understand he's just signed a new contract, all that does really is increase how much compensation he'd get if he was fired.
I have heard that Hicks and Gillette are trying to sell out, and I've heard the Gillette is also trying to sell the Montreal Canadians hockey team as well. Any new owner is going to want to bring their own manager in 99% of the time. |

I suppose it depends on who the incumbent is and how good a job they are doing. Personally I cant see liverpool bringing in a new manager with new ownership...just as the Glazers knew a good thing when they saw it with Man U, I dont think any new owners would dream of ditching Raffa, and why rile up the (majority) of supporters who are behind him. It is a bit odd though that after Liverpools best playing season in years, there is the distinct possibility that the third best team in the city is better placed to bring home a trophy than the reds:unsure: |

I guess the change depends on whether the new owners (if any) think Rafa's done enough to stay, or whether they see another possibly under-achieving season as the future under Rafa. I hope he stays.

I heard a story from the weekend that Mark Lawrenson was being pursued by a bunch of little scallies down wembley way and nearly getting hit by a bus...who says the friendly derby has gone! |

I went to the Liverpool Porto game in Toronto a few years ago and it was mixed seating!...the atmosphere and the banter back and forth was better than the last premiership game I went to, but maybe that cos You could have a beer or two during the game... I cant imagine that not being terribly abused in the UK. Then again, things are perhaps a little better now than they were at the worst of the hooliganism era. But, if you treat fans in the stadiums like they are going to fight and keep them seperate, maybe they get conditioned to the idea that they should behave like that... |
Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread
Try being a Swansea fan with Cardiff fan's about !!!
Its the case now where Cardiff fans turn up at Welsh matches wearing their blue tops looking for Swansea fans to batter.. Idiotic thugs most of them! |
Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread
I don't suppose this is any more 'off topic' than some of the other posts but last night I had this dream.
England v Germany. A long ball forward finds a couple of Germans coming back from offside positions. One of them lets the ball go past him knowing he’s off. But the one who was even more offside gets the ball. Astoundingly, the ref plays on. :frown: Even more astoundingly, the German collecting the pass and now moving forwards with just the keeper between him and the goal is the team doctor. He is even wearing a white coat. The ref still plays on. The doctor knows he was offside (and not even a player) and he “sportingly†runs the ball over the goal line. The ref gives a goal kick but keeper Foster insists on taking a free kick where the offside took place and gets into a row with the ref. Weird or what? |

I have to agree with you and I'm a Spurs fan. We had loads of trouble with them lot until we took enough lads down with us. Even then the younger scallies were trying to have it with loads of the OB around. Just hope they don't come up to the proper league anytime soon.

Not looking too good for the barcodes, squeaky bum time indeed. Need to win both home games and hope Hull continue to slide.

Pretty much done and dusted, you'll be playing the likes of QPR next season

But I haven't given up hope yet; the Toon actually played quite well this afternoon (for the most part). No luck in front of goal yet again though. I also had the honour of meeting a very personable new young barmaid at the nearest Setanta venue. |

I watched parts of the game......Crouch was poor but NUFC weren't great. The owner didn't look too perturbed....Gazza seemed more concerned. Do you think Mr. Creosote will stick around if they are in the Coca Cola Championship. |
Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread
They've still got a shot. Don't underestimate how bad Hull are.

Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread
Never saw the game but most comments were along the line that Shearer must have picked the team to play out of a hat.
The last time Swansea played Newcastle in the second division (use of its real name there), was when we were on the way up... so good omens for Swansea really, not so good for Newcastle but good ones for us. ;) |
Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread
FT Barcelona 0-0 Chelsea
i hate to admit it but that is a sterling result for chelsea. i was looking forward to playing barca in the final this year, looks like chelsea again, got to fancy them to nip it 1-0 at home. |

I disagree I still make Barca favourites, Chelsea went there to snuff them out they succeeded it will be a different game in London and Chelsea will have to leave more gaps, remember Barca only need a score draw to go through.

But this was a great result and Chelsea actually had the better chances. If they can achieve that with so little possession they'll be likely to create far more chances at home and Barcelona will make even more defensive errors. It's just a case of taking enough to put Barcelona away. |
