Thanks Novo. Even if you had beat us on saturday, I guess you'd not have been wanting this tie.

I look at it this way. You have to play the big teams sometime (and ManU), so why not now and get it over and done with. There are only 6 Premier League teams left in the last 16.

hmm yes, difficult one, can't say i am filled with optimism, but, we are at home, everyone is fit at the moment and we are on a good run. all i think of is the semi's a few years back against arsenal when giggsy picked it up in his own half and ran most of the pitch and scored. come one utd.

Indeed. I can't be arsed to go a-googling on the subject, but this is quite unusual I would think.

Wouldn't it be funny if your match winner was the only premiership team in the last eight? C'mon Barnsley! C'mon 'Uddersfield.

The vestigial Pompey fan in me can't bring myself to agree :p. I never did pay a great deal of attention to the footie, and even less so now I don't have the right channels on the telly, but I did go to a few games at Fratton Park with my dad in the mid-late 1970s during their meteoric descent to League Division 4. Actually, thinking about where we were living at the time I must also have seen a game or two in the 1979-80 season when they won promotion back out of div 4...

So whats going on with Dennis Wise and the other "executives" recently brought on board?

Surely this must smell of "too many cooks", at least as far as "King for a week" Kev must be concerned.

Aint no good going to come of it if you ask me.

I don't know what's going on either. I'll have to wait until Niall and Biffa update nufc.com.

Maybe Newcastle are the new Leeds?

Or maybe Ashley and Mort know their own limitations and want a knowledgible footie person on the board (for a change). That said I hated Wise when he was playing. He made Joey Barton look sophisticated.

Wise has been a sucessful manager considering, but a yorkshire friend of mine is pretty sure that Leeds sucess of late was largely to do with Poyet anyway, and that is largely borne out by results since he left for Spurs.

What I dont get is if you want a Footie person on the board, then why not bring Keegan himself onboard, or offer it to Shearer?

And why the need for the others?

Shearer was an iconic player for the Toon, but he's got zero qualifications as a manager and coach. If they want to use him they should tell him to put the frighteners on the so-called strikers on the team.

What others?

I thought Sheared had his UEFA A or B licenses now?..Granted, no management experience, but he will probably end up with some sort of job there yet.

The others...acording to the Times, "Tony Jimenez, a London-based property developer, will join the board as a vice-president and Jeff Vetere, a scout for Real Madrid, will be appointed as technical director to complete a continental-style management structure working in support of Kevin Keegan."

Well there you are then. M&A are just cleaning house and getting rid of the rubbish that Fat Freddy Shepherd left behind. Can't be any worse than the last lot.

Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread

The scary thing is the Keegan is on record as recently as last october saying that a continental management structure never worked out well for anyone...and now he says hes fine with it.

Something aint right...but thats hardly news at newcastle I suppose.

Why would you need a property developer on a football team board unless you were looking to sell St James's Park for redevelopment?

Or is a case of jobs for the boys?
