Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread
I watched the United game in a pub showing RDS. The commentary was in French, by a woman. I rather liked it. But then I was assuming that the commentatrice looked like Mélissa Theuriau.

i have no idea who she is mate, but my experiences (limited) of french ladies have been positive so i shall conjure an aappropriateimage myself. |

Well you didn't miss much. Good goal from Arse followed by a lucky penalty and a set piece goal 2-1. You get the points.
Although as a Man Utd fan I have to admit the Arsenal looked the better team for most of the match (I'll probably need therapy for saying that). |

What I can't work out is why there were no men at the posts for the free kick. It was clear from the stunned reaction that Ronaldo was expected to take it, and everyone knows what he can do from that position. Can only assume Lehmann - who spent the days since our exit from the Champion's League crowing about how we'd still be in every competition if he'd not been replaced with Almunia - made that, very poor, decision himself. |
Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread
Ah well, never mind that... the big news of the day is that Laurent Robert & Armado Guevara's TOrONto FC beat Pretty Boy Beckham and Landon (Lonny) Donovan's LA Galaxy 2-3.

Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread
Emile Heskey struck with an injury-time volley to earn a point for Wigan and leave Chelsea's hopes of winning the Premier League hanging by a thread.
and so the final nail in the current chelsea managers coffin is firmly volleyed in. Told you, he'll be gone in the close season. money is still on lippi. Now it really is utd, with Wigan being thrashed on the last day of the season just to really rub it in. Hubris. Ha. |

this was from a while ago:-Arsenal see Celtic's Artur Boruc as Jens Lehmann's long-term successor (Sunday People). Now this would be a good move for Arsene, especially given Jens clanger today against Fulham. I am a big admirer of the Polish keeper, who has been tremendous for Gordon Strachan’s side during the last two campaigns. The accomplished stopper has attracted controversy whilst in Glasgow and this may play a part in his future plans. He is currently injured and Celtic seem to have a more than competent replacement in Scottish keeper Mark Brown, but I am sure the Bhoys won't be keen to see their number one leave |

Lehman fershure. his days are numbered. though unfortunately i think he will find another spot in the premiership with someone like spurs, he will want to stay in the south anyways. pity as he is/was a great goalie but a bloody awful sportsman.
Lehman personifies poor sportsmanship to me. Leading up to WC 2006 he was ranting and raving in the press that Oliver Kahn shouldn't be #1 and that he should be #1 for Germany. He did well at WC 2006, but now he has been demoted at Arsenal and he doesn't like it one bit. His press statements (if they are true and haven't been lost in the translation) come across very bitter. Against MUFC his positioning on the free kick that Hargreaves scored on was poor...he basically didn't move at all. BTW...Hargreaves seems to be playing quite well these days. |

I have a feeling that if Man U win the premiership and the Champions League that Scholes/Giggs/Gary 'I speak in the 3rd person' Neville will either retire or substantially cut back on their playing time next year. In interviews, Hargreaves comes across as reasonably intelligent (and a certifiable Mensa candidate amongst footballers) with the added bonus of having 3 accents (Canadian, north of england general accent and german) and he can actually speak german. I have a feeling that he is so driven and wanted to come to Man U so much, that he won't screw up anymore in front of the gum chewing boss. |

Ferguson to me is a bully and like it or not he has been the continuity for much of their success since 1986. His defense of Roy Keane through the incidents with the Man City player who injured him etc, was awful in my mind. |

as for keano, well had dealings with him too. i know, but i worked around south manchester so met lots of the players over the years for one thing or another. keane had bomb threats after this incident. could not have been more obnoxious when i was at his home if he tried. also split up a fight between him and a builder in the middle of the day, almost on the bonnet of my car as i was parked up having a brew. again, very sullen like a little kid when i tried just to sort it out and send them both packing. went down a lot in my estimation over the years. |

1-1 close, very worried. got to take my hat off to blackburn and players like friedal, samba and pederson, they were fantastic. should have been a penalty at the death for the handball on the corner, but no complaints, we needed at least a point and now its in our hands, only we can win or lose it next week. utd utd utd.
