When I went to Australia I based myself out of Alice Springs for the first half, and can't remember all where I went now as its been 20 some years, however I have yet to replicate that trip anywhere in US or Canada, even away from city's in isolated places here in BC, I run into people, same in the US, but I went an entire day there driving in the middle of nowhere not seeing another human or even a car passing me on the road, it was crazy, and the sky looked different, a different shade of blue.

I've always had a liking for the place, sometimes feel I was born on the wrong continent. ha ha

Of the 38,000 people who go missing in Australia every year, 98% are found. That still leaves a lot of people who never are.
Apparently so is Canada

In any given year, between 70,000 and 80,000 people are reported missing to police in Canada. While most are found within seven days, missing persons cases can be extremely stressful for family and loved ones.

And BC will probably never get above 3rd place...

Similar one for the US although just the top 20 1790 onwards, and projection to 2050. California's growth was quite quickly, never visualized how fast California climbed to the top.

I hope not, the further down the list the better as far as I am concerned.

Canada appears to becoming less happy, and falling behind the US.

https://globalnews.ca/news/7710821/w...=GlobalCalgary

"Canada ranked 15th on this year’s list, down five spots from 2017-2019, according to the report. Canada also officially fell behind the United States after ranking ahead of its southern neighbour for several years in a row. The U.S. placed just ahead of Canada at No. 14 on this year’s list."

Top 10 are
  1. Finland
  2. Iceland
  3. Denmark
  4. Switzerland
  5. The Netherlands
  6. Sweden
  7. Germany
  8. Norway
  9. New Zealand
  10. Austria
Zimbabwe comes in last place.

"The results are based on 2020 data examining income, freedom, trust in government, life expectancy, social support and generosity."

I'd not mind New Zealand, they seem like a happy lot...

My wife can speak Swiss German and does have Swiss Citizenship.

For me just English and a useless tiny amount of Spanish.

So I’ve just found out that many city by-laws including Surrey, BC ban washing lines/clothes lines - anyone know why?

Just so strange to me growing up with a rotary washing line in the back garden...

It's the same for most cities in BC, I can only imagine it's because they look uncouth to non Brits who grew up with them in their back garden.
