Siouxie, on the $35 plan you mention 3gb+2gb
world traveller & US roaming is an extra $8 & $15 respectively
Thing with the 3gb +2gb is that this could be cancelled anytime, I suppose though for now it'd be the cheapest way to go, also once you get over 5gb, its an extra cost

The 3+2 is for 10 months, accoring to the plan details - I may 'up the ante' after that period. As to over 5Gb, personally I'm highly unlikely to get that high - however, should that happen then I would switch to the higher plan.
There's also a discount of $5 for bringing your own phone, effectively reducing the $35 down to $30 a month - (going up to $35 after 10 months), which is a pretty good deal!
You may need higher if you are browsing the web daily, but perhaps give it a try?

There are decent lower-end smartphones that allow tethering, most of them do. I would be surprised if you found a smartphone that didn't, actually.
My parents have the Moto G Play, it's more than adequate for their purposes. They don't use it for much more than basics - email, google, occasionally maps, photos, text, phone calls. Very simple.

Basic specs for each look similar - 4G LTE 8GB smartphone
Can somepme please let me know if the E is as good as the G & if the E is worth getting?
Thanks

looked at Best Buy & they have unlocked Moto G & Moto E, there is approx $100 difference in price, lower for the moto E. Is it the E is an older model?

I found this article which outlines the differences quite well: Moto G 4 vs Moto E 2: What's the difference?
In my opinion, you are absolutely worth spending the $100 extra to get the G over the E. The processor in the E is quite an old one, and the storage space is WAY better on the G. If you are wanting to use your phone for pictures, the camera on the G is also significantly better.
The E is fine if you are really, really looking to cut corners, but if it were me, I would be getting the G.

techy type question
With the Moto G phone does is it have the capability of having an external larger monitor plugged into it?
Also, could a wireless keyboard be used with the motoG, so that basically the phone becomes a stand alone basic computer?

We have the E and it's a less than ideal phone. Pain really due to its limited storage you can't have much on the phone app wise.
I would not recommend it and we only got it as it was the only option at the time we needed a phone in the price range we could pay.

The E is the very VERY budget version of an already-budget phone.

My husband has an older version of the G, and my parents have the current G. Great budget phone all around.
I couldn't compare to the E, but Jsmth's experience should be the final point that the G is definitely the better option.

I have 'Networx' bandwidth monitor which tells me by the hour how much bandwidth I use - a selection of , on BE, simple web page looking, gmails, news web sites, maps & UK newspapers.
https://www.softperfect.com/products/networx/
My browser page is blank, just the address bar, no grahics, Ad blocker on, no pictures - on standby idle, open connected to the internet, I'm using ~300kb/hr bandwidth
As long as I stay away from youtube, any downloading, no videos, images, etc, I'm good to go & can keep within that 20mb - 30mb/hr
Based on my calculations, it would seem that .....
On the basis I am using 30mb/ hr x 5hrs/day x 30 days = 4.5GB, I should be OK with a Wind phone/internet (3GB+2GB) 5GB/mth plan for $30/mth
.

Still with Bell fibre 20/25 for at least another 30 days (price now $49.95/mth no contract) to give me time to do whatever. Maybe wait till 'Black Friday' see what deal I can get on a smart phone with an HDMI socket on it

300kb/hr is in idle mode, internet open, blank page
30mb/hr is when I am doing all kinds such as BBC, BE, gmails, maps, etc, going & switching back & forth constantly between them
If I stay on BE (no images, no pop up, no advertisements) my usage is approx 15mb - 20mb/hr depending on if I'm going from thread to thread, looking at the odd image or picture someone posted, to a lik which I open to see what it is
Using the networx monitor the DL and UL rates vary depending which website I'm on
Will need to look further into this

I assume you are not using Windows 10, which is way more usage-hungry.

I looked at the bandwidth monitor for the period 10 am - 10:59 am
Average DL rate 4.09 KB/s
Average UL rate 481 bytes/s
Hourly usage 16.9MB
The average hourly DL & UL rates swing & don't know why - maybe its which web pages it is that I'm on?

Some pages will use more, some will use less.
It looks like the 5GB plan would work. I'd keep a close eye on your data for a month and see how it goes, but I'd imagine you'd be fine, especially if you don't leave tethering on 100% of the time. (It's a simple on-off toggle on your phone)
