I called Telus last weekend to cancel my TV package and drop my internet from 100 mbps to 50 mbps, told me there was $10 charge for every month of my cable contract that was left so they stunned me and dropped my cable to $5 per month so i would keep it, my 50 mbps they gave me at a "New Customer" discount ! Both together now cost $68, that includes a bundle discount for my cell too. 400 Gb download limit, i average 125 Gb per month and i stream a lot of movies through a Raspberry Pi.
We are grandfathered in for internet now, they have changed their plan prices and what you get, so if we change anything to the internet we will end up paying more for less.
We did try to switch to Telus, but the $300 deposit they wanted is a bit much to ask for, so we declined switching.
Because of bundle pricing with Shaw, it's not worth going to one of the small name internet places, and no other options for TV so have to stick with Shaw.

Got cable free nearly all of the last year with Shaw because of the desire to keep subscriber numbers up, now they don't care, they will just cancel if asked.

Holy crap why did they want a $300 deposit ?
I didn't pay any deposit at all when i switched from Shaw.
Shaw called me a few weeks ago but couldn't get close to the deal i have from Telus.

Shortsighted on their part, they likely lose a fair amount of potential customers by creating walls to get said customers....
Shaw is fine for TV, but we have consistent issues with the internet, not sure if there are just too many people in this building on shaw, and it slows things down, I am not sure, but it's consistent at the same time nearly daily. 5 to 7pm and 12 midnight to 2am or so, sometimes it will go down all night from midnight to around 7am/8am.
Tech support always says it should be working, and we go through the motions of unplugging this, restarting this, or that. But if never fixes anything.
They sent out a tech a few months ago to replace the modem and look at the cables, and the tech said everything looked fine, but would replace the modem anyhow since the one we had was 5 years old and no longer supported, but the new modem didn't fix the issues.
Looking at the wireless networks, my computer picks up 9 and there are 12 units in this building, of those 9 8 are shaw networks, only 1 person with wireless seems to be using Telus.
If the stupid cable outlets were not in the most idiotic of places, I'd just hard wire the computer to the modem, but it's just no possible without having coaxial cable all over the floor.
You have limited options in apartments where they always put the cable outlet in some random stupid spot most would not put a TV, like on the wall above the baseboard with a giant window in the wall. Seriously building planners or whoever design these things, need to think before putting in outlets...lol

Classic giant douche versus turd sandwich situation. Unless something changed, their stuff costs the exact same, works until it doesn't, nobody gives a ***** about you, they test your limits by routinely raising prices until you threaten to cancel, then they plug a few numbers into some formula that determines how far they will pull their d*ck out your a*s just enough to keep you around

They didn't say why. Credit isn't bad, and is in what they call the good range and only thing I can think of is because I had to cancel a service in 2006 due to moving and they not offering service in the new location but we paid the fees and everything in full at time of cancellation, so didn't go into collections or anything, we paid what was asked and to think of it I don't even think the service was in my name as I wasn't a PR yet and pretty sure it was only in the ex-wifes name, but Telus wouldn't budge on the deposit, so they lost a customer. We will never consider them again for any service.

I had the same speed problem with Shaw, Turns out you share your speed with other people so if lots are on the speed drops a lot. I never got the speed i was paying for so when Telus knocked on my door and their DSL they promised would be a consistent speed i jumped at it.
Funny too my place doesnt have a phone jack at the front of my condo, it was original a 12 apartment building and was knocked into a 6 condo building but the wall they took out at the front was the one with the cable and phone jacks in it (Looked in my bedroom which use to be a living room). When Telus moved my account to my new place i had it all running wifi from the spare room, back of my TV was a mess, wires everywhere, internet coming from a a box plugged into the mains (some kind of bridge a friend loaned me) plus an Ethernet cable box that plugged in to the mains, all to try and boost the internet at my TV/PS4/RP etc, when i upgraded i insisted they get it hard wired to the back of the TV which took Telus all of 10 minutes to run a cable you cant see and hey presto everything works great.
The 50Mbps hasnt changed anything, everything even streaming HD movies works great, constant speed most of the time, on the rare occasions my speed drops i just reboot the modem and extended wifi and its back to speed.

Today was the day for having to pay for the service - it was negotiation time.
What I ended up with was 12 months $39.95/mth - 25/10 with 500GB (which I will never use) . The technician is coming this Wednesday to lay the fibre from the pole to the house along with an upgraded modem.
.
After the Bell incompetence run around, three seperate service tech visits, a week a ago a cable contractor installed the fibre through a conduit from the pole to the house.
It took till today from my placed order 2-weeks ago for Bell to finish the fibre install job to be completed.
All good, the speed is 28 mbps UP/ 25mbps Down

Our cable box has decided not to work, it's stuck on one channel and refuses to do anything else.
Called Shaw, they had us restart the box didn't work, then unplug the box and wait 1 minute, plug back in didn't work. Reprogram the remote control, didn't work. Set box back to factory settings wiping everything out on box, didn't work.
Tomorrow they are sending a tech out to try and fix it as tech support was out of idea's on how to fix it.
This stupid box better be fixable, I'll be pissed if it's busted as the warranty just ended a few weeks ago..
Guess it might be better to rent the box vs buying it, but we shall see what Shaw says tomorrow.
First big hardware issue and first when we own the hardware, the modem died last year, but it's not owned by us so Shaw just sent out a new one no issue, but not sure they will be as accommodating this time.

Some updates
Rogers recently had an offer whereby you get free Netflix for 12mos when you sign up for a new cell plan and bundle with your home internet, along with their usual 24mos free Spotify Premium. (You can choose some shoddy magazine option or *shudder* Shomi instead, but i'll take the Spotify)
In our household there have been Rogers services nigh on two decades. Wireless I added a couple years ago from Telus on a business plan, and that being merged with our personal household plans have caused a mess with the bills and such, so I thought this a good opportunity to move our cell phones onto a "Personal" plan and merge the bill together.
After much kafluffle and screwups with the account merger, they told me I wasn't eligible for the free Netflix BUT they gave me a $25/month credit ongoing indefinitely.
Now i am in the clear as I have gained free Spotify (was paying $40/month for 4 accounts beforehand, now only paying $10 for the 4th account which Rogers doesn't cover) and a $25/mo credit. This credit really makes me in the green since the $25 per month covers a Netflix Premium 4K subscription. Now, I don't own anything that can push 4K, so I will stick to my grandfathered $8.99 per month plan.
We also have full comprehensive phone, internet and cable with Rogers. If anyone's interested I can post a breakdown of our costs and what is/is not included.

Anyone west of the Ontario/Manitoba border cannot get Rogers Internet, cable or home phone.
Your choices are Telus or Shaw out west.

There was a more recent question of someone new asking for service but they were in BC so my experience with Rogers wasn't really relevant.

Yep... And shaw doesn't have mobile service iirc so if you want something bundled all in your only option is Telus. (We get discounts from Rogers for having all 4 services together. I imagine Telus is the same out west)
