Did the learned gentlemen mean the Foreigners Act, 1946?

When is the myth that foreigners have 'bought Goa' going to finally be laid to rest?

'...land masses...'??????

What a load of utter bollocks.

Evenin All :D

Severely criticising the force's manner of functioning, the leader of opposition and chairman of the committee, Manohar Parrikar, said Goa police were "yet to acquire a human face". *

* I think Mr Parrikar is wrong.. they actually have 2

To counter this apathy, the committee has recommended the setting up of a high tech 24-hour complaint registration cell. *

* Wonder what type of "CELL" they mean

Remember ! Be careful out there

Thats only if the Central Government allow this to happen. It would be interesting to know which part of the Act the Goa Government would rely on to make their case.

It was also stated in the article that there were 480 violations I am not sure if that is right I thought it was the number of cases being investigated to find out if any were in violation.
I read somewhere that only one was found so far to have violated the rules and that it was reported as a Russian company which actually is an Indian company with a Russian Director.

I really had to put a couple of paragraphs of the twoddle on here -

http://www.recordernewspapers.com/ar...6599952262.txt

Unlike Other Parts (of India)

Most noticeable to visitors coming from other parts of India is the quiet neatness around Goa. Very unlike other parts of India, garbage is regularly picked up from designated bins along well-paved roads. Streets are usually free of trash, but cows, mongrel dogs and water buffalo wander about in search for the odd bit that was over-looked in the clean up.

Traffic noise is subdued, as are other aspects of life around Goa. Beggars are rare, as well as a paucity of splashes of colorful clothing as well as the gaudily painted lories displaying playful gods in a riot of colorful patterns that are prevalent in other portions of India. Even the eye-dazzling saris that the subcontinent is famous for are replaced by more restrained saris tied Maharastra style with the fabric pulled between the legs like a dhoti. Many older women wear two-piece 60’s styled skirts with matching over-blouses reminiscent of Europe in a by-gone era.

"Portuguese houses, both old an new, are set in small gardens. In each front garden is a shoulder high white plastered cement square structure: a pediment altar."

Most of the nice Portuguese houses I know have been refurbished by FNs

In all fairness once you get into the interior of Goa it is still lovely ( not to sure on the garbage side of things tho )

Quite agree:

The portuguese houses are fantastic BUT a lot of them are in a state of 'decaying grandeur' or 'faded glory' - maybe due to lack of inclination or funds to restore them. The nicest portuguese houses have been sympathetically restored either by FNs or wealthy Goans/Indians returning from succesful overseas careers with wads of cash. . . . . . . . . . . . don't get me started!

Have a look at this one: http://www.palaciododeao.com/intro.htm
