PANAJI - The doctors at the Goa Medical College have been facing a problem of a different kind (shortage of linen particularly gowns and sheets of sterilised linen) that has forced them to postpone many operations in the recent past. According to sources in the GMC there is acute shortage of linen and as 10-12 sheets of sterilised linen are required for each operation, the doctors performing surgery find it difficult to carry out the operations fixed for the day and that a number of the operations get postponed. The sources also informed that the postponing of operations do not end the problem and rather the situation worsens as they are added to subsequent days and that there was no resolution in sight as the file for purchase of operation theatre linen was sent to the government for approval exactly a year ago as per laws as only one contractor had bid for the tender. And I thought the NHS was in a bad way. |

UK PM's site flashes appeal on Goa land deals
NT NETWORK Posted on 2009-06-24 PANAJI - Number10.gov.uk - the official website of the Office of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Mr Gordon Brown has flashed a petition signed by over 125 British citizens, led by Mr Andrew F Davies, wherein they have requested the British Premier to Approach the government of India and request it to take cognisance of and correct the unlawful actions of the state government of Goa whereby the sub-registrars of Goa have been instructed not to order the registration of deeds relating to the sale of immovable property where one of the parties to the transaction is a foreign national. This is in direct contravention of the 1908 Registration Act, the e-petition says. It adds We would also ask that the Indian government be asked to ensure that the department of revenue, directorate of enforcement acts judiciously when investigating alleged infringements of Foreign Exchange Management Act and is not being used to harass foreign nationals who have bought property in Goa. The petition further maintains that many British citizens are facing several problems in purchasing and registering property in Goa. Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha MP from Goa, Mr Shantaram Naik told The Navhind Times that he has been closely following the development as regards the petition, and has confirmed that the Office of the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh has, till date not received any communication from the Office of the British Prime Minister on the particular matter. ©Copyright 2007 Navhind Papers & Publications http://www.navhindtimes.com/story.php?story=2009062415 Shantaram Naik is very keen on 'special status' for Goa and has been doing his best at New Delhi to push an anti foreigner property agenda which is opposed to our interests and those Indians in Goa who are 'non Goans'. He is not an ally . |

Goa MP justifies freezing foreigners’ land deals
Posted: 24 Jun 2009 08:48 AM PDT If the British government can enact laws to keep Indians and other Asians out of certain jobs, then no foreigner should object to Goan authorities freezing land sale agreements where law violation is suspected, a Congress MP said. Rajya Sabha member Shantaram Naik was reacting to reports in a section of the media which said that more than 100 British citizens had petitioned their Prime Minister Gordon Brown to resolve the impasse, which had developed after the state government froze land purchases of nearly 400 Britons, and placed the transactions under investigation. “If the Goa government tries to examine any suspected FEMA (Foreign Exchange Management Act) violations by certain foreign nationals or tries to have a stricter law, no foreign national should have any objection,†Naik said. Snubbing the British authorities, Naik said: “The British government has not lagged behind even in interfering with religious practices of certain Indian communities. India does not indulge in such things.†He said the present FEMA provisions were far too liberal, as far as foreigners buying land in India was concerned, and while bigger states could absorb large scale land purchase by foreigners, small states like Goa stood to lose. “FEMA should contain more strict provisions as regards the small states. Such sale of land can virtually ‘liquidate’ a small state like Goa,†he said. The MP said there were large scale irregularities that several foreigners had indulged in while purchasing land in Goa, which needed to be probed thoroughly. “A number of foreign nationals bought land in Goa without fulfilling the requirement of 182 days’ stay here and without holding a business visa, thereby misrepresenting and misguiding the authorities. This has to be put an end to,†Naik said. Courtesy: thaindian |

Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Has Naik never heard of Neasden Temple - that is how much the British Government has interfered with religious practices against the Indian Community.
Just looking at the outside facade of the temple is enough to leave you speechless. The whole process of building this temple is astonishing; five thousands of tons of limestone and marble from different parts of Europe was shipped out to India, carved there and brought back to London. This is truly a place that you have to visit. Brilliant photo on this page if you have never seen it. http://www.londonforfun.com/info-for-Neasden-temple.htm |

Polititians seem to be outside the 'thinking box' and are tolerated and revered for what it seems 'they can do for me personally'. eg. they gave me a licence to build on top...they got me water supply...they gave me free toilet ? I can so understand that personal issues count for a lot but not one, and I mean, not one of our friends see the wider picture. There are not unintelligent, but either don't want to think about 'tomorrow' or they are so blinkered that they cant see where the state is going. Still makes me smile when a Goan gets a cold and says...I knew I shouldnt have had ice in my drink last night!! regards Indiapurple |

Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Hi This is my first post,
Myself and partner are in a similar situation to many who have 'bought' property they can't own. Well done with the petition work, something needs to be done. Though of course people do feel fearful. With regards to Minister. Naiks comments I am honestly stunned. To my certain knowledge all employees in public services in the UK must respect and accommodate all religious and cultural diversity. Failure to do so can result in dismissal. Schools catering to different faiths proliverate including Hindu schools. In non religious schools children celebrate festivals of all faiths. The UK Govt is the first European Govt. to begin implimenting the Human Rights Act. To be honest I don't know what Minister Naik means. Any way we think you have made a brilliant effort with the petition.:thumbsup:Will post again. Ruskin |

Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Ruskin, thanks & welcome:)
Please bulk e mail your friends, family and colleagues to ask them to sign if they are sympathetic. It only takes a couple of minutes, is internet safe, and no personal information such as home address is accessible or retrievable. 500 signatures are required by 17th July for Downing Street to take notice. Foreigners affected by this are agreed that the State Government of Goa should act lawfully and not outwith the Constitution of India, as at present. H.M Government, UK has a responsibility to represent the interests of British citizens diplomatically and that is all we ask. We make no demands to amend or interfere with the Indian Constitution. That is an obsession of Sri Shantaram Naik who is very much in favour of retrospective amendments to the Constitution and Goa State Government laws. Can you imagine the repatriation consequences of similar legislation in the UK, and the outcry of racism? |
