Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Will any of us be going to North Goa this coming season. Report on the Zuari Bridge in the Herald.
http://oheraldo.in/pagedetails.asp?nid=23601&cid= “The bridge has deteriorated so much that it may not be possible to restore the strength of the bridge to the original designed value,†the report submitted by Professor K M Bajoria of the IIT, Mumbai says. It may be noted that Herald reported damage to the bridge surface in May, but the Public Works Development Minister Churchill Alemao clarified that the cracks were not deep and are only on the bituminous surface. And Mr. Churchill knows better than the Professor  Looks like it may be going the same way as the one in Panjim a few years ago - into the river. |
Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Altogether now !
"Zuari Bridge is falling down, falling down, might hurt badly" |

Please bulk e mail your friends, family and colleagues to ask them to sign if they are sympathetic. It only takes a couple of minutes, is internet safe, and no personal information such as home address is accessible or retrievable. 500 signatures are required by 17th July for Downing Street to take notice. Foreigners affected by this are agreed that the State Government of Goa should act lawfully and not outwith the Constitution of India, as at present. H.M Government, UK has a responsibility to represent the interests of British citizens diplomatically and that is all we ask. We make no demands to amend or interfere with the Indian Constitution. That is an obsession of Sri Shantaram Naik who is very much in favour of retrospective amendments to the Constitution and Goa State Government laws. Can you imagine the repatriation consequences of similar legislation in the UK, and the outcry of racism? Thanks, Yes, have bulk e-mailed and asked others to do so. Goan voice indicates that people of Goan origon are also willing to speak out.:thumbsup: cheers, ruskin:thumbsup: |
Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Tried to edit last post,
failed it seems. Just wanted to add that there is an item in the Herald today that all coastal panchayats in S. Goa Canacona and Salcette have been asked to provide details on FN's 'staying ' or running businesses. They have been given 1 week and the information will be passed to Police and then to HC. Sorry I dont know how to post the link. I am wondering what this is about:unsure: Cancaconna any news on this, Ruskin |

Mikky never going into a casino again (until next week ;) )
http://oheraldo.in/pagedetails.asp?nid=23646&cid=2 “I will never ever again enter casinos in the State as they foster a lot of illegalities,†Pacheco told reporters. Sounds a bit like the assembly in Goa. He said that he never realized that live gaming tables are not allowed on land casinos. So much for the Tourist Minister knowing the about the things that pertain to tourism. |

In Today's Herald
Copywright Herald Newspapers:
(Keith's Brother by any chance - I think not!) Harassing Brits Michael Vaz, Merces Some British citizens who have bought land in Goa are denied the right to get their sale deeds registered, allegedly under instructions from the government. Has any legislation been passed forbidding sale of our precious land to foreigners? If not, is it not the law of the land that any transaction of immovable property should be duly registered? Are we acting under any written law or purely arbitrarily? Unable to arrive at any solution, these troubled Britishers have petitioned the UK Prime Minister to take up the matter with the union government to resolve the impasse. Let us not forget that there are several Goans who have acquired valuable immovable property in the UK and other parts of the world. If we claim that Goan land is limited, so is the case with the UK, which is only a fraction of the size of India. Our high-handedness here can prove to be counter-productive to Goans elsewhere in the world, as Goans who have bought land in other countries could end up facing similar problems. Regards Hemingway |
Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Not strictly from today's newspapers but from another forum which I thought that non-readers of that site should read.
"By the way, about 2 months ago, the owner of Sublime, Chris, was badly beaten up. Apparently they purposely punctured his ear and told him that if he would open his restaurant next year, they would do the other ear as well!! . It is really horrible and I feel so sorry for Chris". http://www.indiamike.com/india/goa-f...th-goa-t81717/ Go down to the last few postings. I knew J5 had not read it as there was no comment from him as he is a good friend of Chris' so mailed him and his reply - as you can see - is there. Would like to know the Nationality of the people who did this - were they Europeans knowing where the restaurant is or were they the Goons of Goa? |
Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Thank you for that Em.
I really am lost for words. Do not have Chris's e-mail with me ( he will be working at his other restaurant in Ibiza at present - yes, he will, no question of if he is well enough), have asked Mrs J5 to look for it, if not will mail him next week when I get back. This must have happened just as we were leaving. He had only just shut down as Nomad and I wanted to eat there and missed it by a day or so. Saw him then and he was having a few days off before packing everything up. H eis one of the nicest (business) people in Goa and one of the best restauranteurs and I hope this will not stop him. If it does, its another major nail in the coffin for us, that's for sure. Pretty sure it would have been the Goons, not the first time their jealousy of his success has given problems. |

Re: In To-day's Newspapers
J5 can elaborate but Sublime first opened in Calangute a few years ago down Dr Alfonso Road - this is past the church in the middle of the road - past the Sportsman and next left where we all used to rent but have all moved on to pastures new but how we all knew each other and are still in touch ( well the more grounded of us)
Then Chris moved and went into partnership () with a British couple near the new Baga bridge and now he is in Anjuna. His food is brilliant and well worth a visit up there. |
