Panaji, July 20 (IANS) Former Goa law minister Francis D’Souza Monday said that the state government should desist from promoting foreign charter tourism and focus more on attracting domestic tourists to the state. “I agree we see a lot of foreign charter tourists coming to Goa. But they do not spend much money. It is the domestic tourists who are the generous spenders when they come visiting,†D’Souza, deputy leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state assembly, said. He was speaking in the assembly. In 2008, Goa saw nearly 1.7 lakh charter tourists visiting the state. Britain and Russia were the top contributors. While 94,379 charter tourists came from Britain, nearly 44,549 tourists were from Russia. “Goa should be promoted as a family destination and not a drug destination or a casino destination as it is being projected now,†D’Souza said, referring to the increasing number of offshore casinos in the state. He added that the government is spending Rs.15 crore for advertising campaign, while it has earmarked a mere Rs.4 crore for developing tourist infrastructure. The only domestic tourists that visit with a large disposal income can be found on the casino boats so once again another minister who is so far from reality. |

B Brillant may they get what they want and deserve, I have seen the domestic tourists and they take the sun beds at a shack, bring there own food and buy a bottle of water all day. Ask any shack owner who they would rather have.

There has been a 10% decrease every year in the number of tourists coming to the state because of the government's lack of efforts to boost the sector, BJP MLA Francis D'Souza told the legislative assembly on Monday… D'Souza said the beaches "continue to appear unclean" … 294 words. from Goan Voice We know where the tax money has gone, into somebodies pocket, certainly not on cleaning the gullies at Mapsa Market etc. |

NHS treatment will be available for tens of thousands of failed asylum seekers to ensure their human rights are honoured, it was announced yesterday.
At present, they are denied free treatment if an asylum bid has been turned down but they have not left the country. But a Government U-turn means failed applicants who are destitute or cannot return home 'through no fault of their own', will be entitled to free care. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...#ixzz0LsRBInUj Now I am really cross - human rights - what about ours in Goa. Off for a coffee and cool down.:curse: |
Re: In To-day's Newspapers
It would appear that we are the only Country in the world to have this human rights thingy, the do gooders of this world would do well to look further than the end of the nose on their faces before crying racism and foul play at every opportunity :frown:
This Country has gone barking mad I tell you. |

Truly shocking is that Noni  I best not mention the £825 million we pledged to India in foreign aid that they can waste on sending up space flights.

Candolim beach in eye of a storm: today's Herald newspaper page 3, with pictures of Shiroda completely destroyed and sand bags which were to defend against sand erosion have been washed out to sea after only 2 months work, does not look good and Palm and Sands is also destroyed and now closed, think this stretch of beach is now going to follow Coco beach and be no more.

We have been told that Medical Tourism is the next thing in Goa - another rip off - thank goodness I have a wrinkly face that I can live with. This is the only daft face I can find. |
