All the classic values many of us were brought up with seem to be disappearing. What's wrong with "loving my God" & being proud to say it! As usual we are cow-towing to the minorities again.

(Hindus love 'God', the "Zillions" are representatives of the various facets of the one God, there are atheist and agnostic Hindus also, it is mainly a philosophy. Just a point). Was 'sent home', in disgrace, from the Brownies when 'Brown Owl' arrived, because of initiating a mass slide in our socks on the newly waxed church hall floor. I didn't go back. |

..... Your description of Hinduism is that of an intellectual minority which would not be recognised by the majority of Indians. In fact very many millions of Indians would not have called themselves Hindus at all if the right-wing Hindu movement hadn't done a takeover job (similar to that done by the early Christian Church), grabbing local festivals and deities and re-defining them as Hindu. I think that in the west people who believe there is no God are still quite a small minority. In the world as a whole 'secular' is probably a minority - I guess China holds the casting vote and I've no idea what that vote is.

AndyD 8-)₹ I think you are belittling the intellect of the millions who are taught from the ancient writings and are aware of the symbolism and representation, this is not always apparent to a non Hindu as most Hindus enjoy ritual and ceremony. What do you mean by right-wing Hindu movement? Just not clear about the century you mean. |

Re: In To-day's Newspapers
I just wonder why traffic cell and Calangute panch is making such a fuss in the monsoon at nearly midnight?? I am sure there must be more pressing issues at hand, or at least better times to make sure the roads are clear... (just my opinion)
Roits errupt over vehicle parking row in calangute... Addressing media persons, Deputy Superintendent of Police N C Raikar said the incident took place after the Calangute traffic police cell had lifted the two-wheeler of a Russian woman parked in a no parking zone along the Calangute-Baga road at about 11.40 pm. http://oheraldo.in/News/Main%20Page%...ute/76033.html |
