Fully agree with everything you say, apart from
This not only affects foreigners but the locals too, and it is much worse for them, they cannot leave the place. . |
Re: In To-day's Newspapers
I agree totally with what Dread and you have said, but I had to point out that this state of affairs affects anyone who has the misfortune to encounter the constabulary in their day to day living. Cross their palm with silver and all, perhaps, will go well.

Don't worry, the Goans are a peaceful people.
Except when excited and herded together. Then people often die violently. Usually the wrong ones. |

By 7pm the crowd had grown to 500… Knowledge that a child had been raped increased the tension Although it seems from so many media reports that sexual offences are on the increase in Goa and India, I personally think that the actual commission of sexual offences is not actually increasing but is being reported more than previously....the advent of so many equality and womens rights groups are helping to raise awareness and this will serve to encourage reportage. Of course the international stage reached via media also helps. This is actually similar to how things developed in the UK during the 1960s and 1970s in relation to sexual offence reporting (as well as other offences which would otherwise have remained behind closed doors such as domestic violence and the like).
