I remember a couple of years ago when my dear old mother came over with her grey hair and took part.. She really enjoyed although I think she went home looking like a 1980's punk, with grey, yellow, purple hair! :) It always seems to stay longer in light coloured hair :)

30 Mar: The Goan. 1000+ foreign settlers in Goa lose their life savings in local property as government forces confiscation of properties and heavy fines… Earlier this month, the British High Commissioner to India, Sir James Bevan made a quick dash to meet British expats living in Goa as well as Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar… The situation was grave, as UK has a unique love affair with Goa, where its citizens have informally adopted Goa as their only winter home and the British stood to lose their life savings only because of a small clause in law that could be corrected by the government… Most of them are senior citizens who have no clue as to how will they spend their lives back in Britain… During the course of researching this eye opening story we came across many such people who still love Goa but feel betrayed…We have killed that golden goose and hurt true well-wishers of our land. Good article in The Goan on Saturday - well done Eagle Eye AT.
Interesting quote from Vaz

The British High Commission have stepped up and taken matters up on behalf of the British who own property in Goa, and there are some political moves going on at the current time.

So pleased to read this Dread, sitting in Mumbai Airport at the moment. Keeping fingers crossed for a good outcome with the workparty, who we must all thank for giving up their holidays to help others.

Also thanks to Eagle Eye

There is an obnoxious indian family with two spoilt brats screaming the place down - OMG hope they are not sitting by me on the plane, or those children are going to have a Nani Noni bollocking,

Just incase any of you use MTS as internet providers, they stop their service in the next couple of weeks as they didn't get their licence renewed. You might find it difficult to pay your remaining bills also (Postpaid connections) as the MTS shops are also closed! Doh!

There certainly is more hope then there ever has been on the horizon Jessica. Some very good people have come on board to act upon the problem and there are some sensitive political moves afoot which are being positively met.
I take it you have property yourself? If so can you please send me a pm with a brief outline of your circumstances - this will be treated in complete confidence but the working party acting for those affected need as much information of peoples' circumstances as possible. Additionally if you are not already receiving a working party newsletter with updates and oyu would like to receive this please send me an e mail address and I will ensure you get these.
That applies to anyone on here who is a property owner in Goa who would like to receive these updates.

Enforcement Directorate notices to 20 foreigners for property purchase violations

2 Apr: Times of India. Enforcement Directorate (ED), Goa, last week issued 20 notices to British, Russian, German and Italian nationals for violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) relating to purchase of immovable properties in Goa. The foreign nationals have been asked to show cause as to why the properties should not be confiscated by the central government. Most of those who have been served notices are British nationals followed by Russians. The properties in question are residential flats, bungalows and ancestral properties…

Goa govt to seek relief for geniune FEMA violation cases

PTI | 07:04 PM,Apr 03,2013
Panaji, Apr 3 (PTI) The Goa government will seek concession in genuine cases of foreigners, whose properties have been served notices by Enforcement Directorate (ED) for violation of Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told PTI that the state government will approach concerned authorities for imposing nominal penalty on them. He clarified that the state government will not stand by huge investments made in the state for commercial purposes. "We can take up cases of small houses or flats," Parrikar explained. The Chief Minister further said that the state will pitch in for the cases basically related to senior citizens, who have invested their retirement earning in the state and for those dwellings which are old. ED has begun the process to issue notice to various foreigners mostly Britishers and Russians for alleged violation of forex rules in buying properties. Parrikar said the money was invested by majority of foreigners through right channel but they had not followed the proper procedure. PTI RPS DK DK

According to his advertisement, he is looking for a slim, childless woman under 40 to share his sprawling, self-built hacienda in Hermosillo, Mexico, a 45 minute flight by his private turboprop from Tuscon, Arizona.

"You must speak English and have done your basic schooling. I don't care how much money you have or don't have ... you should have a sense of adventure and the desire to live an exciting life."

"[You should] be no older than 40 and slim. And please don't be a vegetarian. If you are divorced it doesn't matter, but definitely no children. I am much older than 40 but am very young at heart, very young physically, very active and any girl older than 40 would have a tough time keeping up with my active lifestyle," he said.
