Don't worry about political parties - looks like the army have just lit the blue touchpaper on the first step in the process towards emergency military rule; when democracy stumbles, fascism is always waiting in the wings.

Sunbeds heat up tourism ozone

11 Jan: Herald (Insight). Following court orders and strict government controls on sunbeds, the once bustling beach- side economy has taken a major hit… Reduced loungers drew the most complaints from western pensioners who winter here three to six months each year, with the sun as their main diet. Pensioners, particularly from the UK, have inundated the tourism department, the TTAG and the press with letters, attempting to reverse the five-bed policy, on threat of taking their “ business” elsewhere

Trouble in Paradise

11 Jan: Herald (Insight). The Russian rush to Goa is getting ‘ thick and fast’ every passing year… locals in the business reiterate that Europeans are not too happy about the Russian rush and all the developments on Goa’s beach belt … News reports filtered in that there was a gang fight between two Russian groups. Guns were said to be involved; some firing took place and there were two casualties…

Deputy Superintendent of Police Serafine Dias has ruled out foul play at this stage. An injury mark was on his forehead which the police say is that of a bug bite.
How much did that ludicrous conclusion cost?

Oh, that's alright then, good investigative police work!

Irrelevant anyway, as without any other evidence the Goon police has announced the cause of death to be probably "an overdose of alcohol or drugs"

As usual.................

Always amazes me the way they conclude every foreigners death as either 'accident' or 'drugs/alcohol overdose', before they have established any of the facts................
...........and even when they establish facts, such as the fact that in this specific case the DJ, aged only 34 and likely of good health, had been involved in a physical fight earlier on the day of his death, yet still maintain the death to be accidental !!!!!

These idiots who call themselves police officers clearly haven;t learned anything from the Scarlett Keeling, Steven Bennett or Denyse Sweeney cases (among others)............I predict this case wiill be reclassified sometime down the line when such early presumptions have lost evidence !

Re: In To-day's Newspapers

Calling cops "idiots" only conjures up images of the keystone cops whereas, in reality, you have an organization that is corrupt to the core, with cops on the take from way up high to the cop on the beat.
This not only affects foreigners but the locals too, and it is much worse for them, they cannot leave the place.
Cipriano Fernandes, died in police custody in Panjim 2 years ago; the case is under investigation, the victim went into the station uninjured and came out DEAD. He was beaten to death.
A 16 year old girl raped by her teacher. The cops answer to this crime, "the teacher is willing to make up"!!. The girl killed herself.
A minister's son, Roy Naik, caught on film taking kickbacks from a drug dealer but he is running around free.
One could write a book on all the criminal activities of the law enforcement agencies, but nothing will be done.

If you are looking for a rational answer as to what goes on in India in the judicial processes, you will suffer a stroke.
