Re: In To-day's Newspapers
On the Times of India website :
NEW DELHI: Observing that many foreigners visiting India on tourist visa are involved in journalistic activities, the Union home ministry on Wednesday asked all state governments and concerned authorities in the country to ensure strict compliance of the visa norms so that such visitors are not allowed to indulge in any other works. It also asked the ministry of external affairs to send message to all Indian missions or posts abroad about sensitizing the foreigners about the visa provisions and their obligation to obey the norms strictly while travelling to India. "Ministry of home affairs has noticed that foreigners coming on tourist visa are involved in coverage of events/journalistic activities. In this context, it is stated that tourist visa is not the appropriate visa for such activities by the foreigners," said the ministry in a statement. Clarifying the issue further, it said the tourist visa was issued to foreigners who do not have residence or occupation in India and whose sole objective of visiting India is recreation, sightseeing, casual visit to meet friends and relatives. "No other activity is permissible on tourist visa," it said. Officials in the home ministry said that the foreigners who want to come to India for journalistic purpose can always get different visa. "They should not come to India on tourist visa and indulge in journalistic activities," said an official. |

I was going fishing with two Goans and we left after 10 minutes as it was too much.......going to Pondicherry on the 8th to get away from it all....!

Why not try Murudeshwar next year as a 'getaway' place for New year, for quiet and less crowds. Nearer than Pondicherry!

I watched it being built Bipat its just a BJP theme park based up on characters from The Gita. The boating pool tickled me though complete with pedalo passengers in safron !The main statue though is concrete on wire mesh painted to look like Aluminum.Hampi is going the same way too. No i am looking for some where thats quiet, safe roads great views. Not Blackpool with Dahl or come to that regarding Goa, Blackpool with tandoori chicken and crap on the beach. The stretch between Karwar and Managalore is beautiful enough complete with backwaters and very good beaches too.....same with Maharastra beyond Redi. Pristine beaches all the way to Kohlapur and beyond.Cannot understand why they come to Goa for beaches because what they have is miles better than what we have left here after all the sand extraction etc....
For us it is a useful, pleasant stop-over when family visitors make the journey to futher on Shirali village, particularly since the hotel was built. (We go if space in a car). I would personally agree with yourself that the statue is 'over the top' (literally!), but renovations to the very old temple were much needed. Mr Shetty has also built a good hospital there. Sometimes what is appreciated and useful to the local people does not appeal to all tourists who visit. |

White skinned tourist arrivals drop. Bye bye rogue cabbies in Goa 6 Jan: New York Daily News. If you are a regular Goa visitor, here's your chance to save money from over-charging cabbies in India's most popular beach tourism state. Tourists travelling along Goa's most popular beach stretch from Candolim to Baga will now be able to avail of a cheap bus service, thanks to the Kadamba Transport Corp (KTC), a state-run bus service… Goa's cabbies are notorious for overcharging, often to the tune of several hundred rupees for a couple of kilometres silly article as these buses have always been running, only problem is getting on and off before the drivers shoot off again. www.goanvoice.org.uk |
