Travel feedback of the week: October 30 - November 5, 2010 Readers share their thoughts on travel stories, including obtaining visas to India. Published: 10:03AM GMT 05 Nov 2010 Visas to India Visas for India; Formula One diary: Korean Grand PrixI feel the need to add my cautionary tale about Indian double-entry visas after seeing a reader's question on the subject (Ask Gill, October 30). I bought cheap flights to Hong Kong because of a 12-hour stopover each way in Bombay (Mumbai). We decided to arrange double-entry visas so we could take in a city tour on our first stop and stay in an airport hotel for our second. It took me five visits to the processing agent, VFS Global, and the Indian Consulate to arrange. When I arrived in Bombay for the second stopover I was told that all "special permission" double-entry visa holders needed to get their passport stamped by the Foreign Registration Officer before being allowed to leave. Given that the office was closed from Saturday lunchtime until Monday morning, and my stopover was Saturday night, this was impossible. Did VFS/the Indian Consulate think to check this when issuing me with the double-entry visa? Of course not. Naturally, a single-entry transit visa would have been half the price. .................................................. .................................................. . Long-legged travel As I am tall with long legs, I have always booked premium economy where available, but now I find I must pay much more tax than shorter people. Can any "green" disciple tell me how long legs harm the planet? Geoffrey , Leeds |

Dread - x The best way to 'woo back brits' would be to let them keep their properties. It would be a good opportunity for the 'Homes from Hell' crowd to conduct an interview. |

Actually the mental image of these planks on their roadshow being ambushed by press and tv cameras asking about property is quite amusing ! They won't be expecting that. Dread - x |

Andy from Rs 500 to Rs 800 is quite a jump in a year. AndyD 8-)# |

Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Why do foreign governments still give aid to India?
8 Nov: The Guardian (UK). Aid to India has been in the news a lot recently. India is growing so fast that it will be the second-largest economy in the world (after China) in a few decades. It has a space programme, a nuclear programme, and even an aid programme. So why do rich countries still give India aid? Fair question. But rather than an anomaly, is aid to India actually a blueprint for aid programmes of the future? |

When will they ever learn ?" I am wondering what has happened to make the Russian Govt tell these airlines not to do business with Goa......... that's a pretty big step they are taking against India. As for 'Cameroon' and 'O'Bumma's' special relationship between India and the UK and USA - what a load of BS - they won't even play fair with visas for citizens of the two countries, let alone play fair over anything else !!!!! The article suggests other Russian airports will be expected to follow suit - it could be a very quiet season this year. Dread - x |
