I imagine most of you guys on Goa forum wouldn't actually get it. But that's jokes for you.

Anyway rambled right off topic there ;)

Why is it that jokes about Muslims are seen as offensive but jokes against Catholics or priests or the Irish seem to be acceptable. There are hundreds of jokes about an Englishman and Irishman and a Scotsman, there are jokes about women, do we women object, well possibly but we women still post them as mostly we will laugh at ourselves.

You are right about jokes as I have said above; but sometimes on this Forum combined with the frequent derogatory posts on this thread, as discussed above; the jokes take on a less amusing meaning.
For example, I would say for instance, the same joke told by Eric Morecombe and Bernard Manning would have completely different meaning.
(Clumsy way of trying to convey the reason).

Are you are saying it is the way a joke is told rather than the content that is important, I would have to disagree with that. An offensive 'joke' is offensive no matter who tells it but what one person finds offensive another will not. My OH and I rarely laugh at the same things.

I must say that my Hindu husband's greatest lifetime friend was Muslim who settled in Malaysia. (Passed away with heart attack not long ago).
I remember an evening in UK when he and his wife were staying with us watching the programme on TV "Mind Your Language" (thought by some to be racist), the men were screaming with laughter , then X brought out his collection of "Sikh" jokes and OH his collection of "Irish" jokes. Both had friends from those communities.
But----- there was no malice, and such jokes I am sure you will agree can be offensive according to the circumstances.

And there is no malice in the jokes I put on - in fact perhaps I should close the thread to stop you moaning, and nit picking. Although a host of people from all over BE enjoy the thread.

I also notice that you only come out fighting on To-days Papers when the topic is regarding
indians. No replies about the the early January Sales etc.

I think it's a bit like Beauty in the eye of the beholder, isn't it. Jokes are just jokes and we all laugh at different things, right? And some get upset but really shouldn't . Just ignore if it's not your cuppa tea.

Noni; this is actually an Indian/Goan Forum, isn't it?
My comments were only about the particular jokes as discussed above, not all the jokes.
I posted in order to agree with the posts of Andy, prestonjohn and baked bean regarding Muslims; any comments from you on their posts??

PS I did mention it before Pakistan is a different country to India.

Quite agree - and I have decided to continue the "jokes" muslims, taffs, irish, scotch, brown, white and marshians. Why should one sect be above the others.

Ref bi-pat's post

Err the latest topic referred to UK and Pakistani Muslims ...not India nor Goa. Do you have a problem?

Think you will find that most of the forums on BE (those without Bars or chitchat sections ) have some 'off topic' threads maybe not entirely relating to that country. Maybe we need a Bar on Far East section?

And i don't honestly know why I'm explaining this. Should be obvious t most folks

I think you have misunderstood me; Noni was accusing me of only posting when the topic is about "Indians", I was in fact asking why on an India Forum this was a problem.
As I pointed out on this occasion I was just joining in the discussion started by others and in fact agreeing with the others.
(Previously Noni had thought Pakistan was part of India).

I think my last general post was about my favourite French/English race-horse!!!

Yes have just come home from last-minute pre-India travel shopping, it was really cold here in the Midlands. Glad that the children all got home safely yesterday. (We had an early Christmas 'Do' at the weekend)

The whole area was also British ruled; is that relevant now, when they are two separate countries not exactly on friendly terms? The actual process of partition into two separate countries was not the best of British achievements.
For the present discussions, Pakistan is a Muslim country, India is majority Hindu.

Fully agree, rushed, mishandled, very poorly administered leading to gross events and massacres. All at the behest of a bungling bureaucrat with the blame then laid at the feet of Mountbatten. Disgusting

Whats funny about people who live in boggy areas? :p

Never said Pakinstan was in India now, although it was once, and the people look indian to me.
