The least you could do is google something like "canada's military role today". It would make a good starting point.
Good luck. I'll be asking questions later.

James, your unfamiliarity and ignorance of world combat actions are startling, given that you seem so sure of what you say.

After reading this thread, I am looking forward to my relocation to Toronto next month.

:drinkw ine:

Every country has its pros and cons and I am not expecting miracles but I will do the best I can trying to adjust in a new country and city. Somebody mentioned that Canada has the best bits of USA and the best of Britain ( or Quebec has the best of France), also if you want to earn big bucks live in USA but if you want peace of mind live in Canada. I am not sure how you all feel about it.

Canada's military role is pathetic and could be filled by anyone else.

Hi James,
Yes I am "gulp". I am going to take it like a man (Like Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons).

My Mum is blowing hot and cold but even if I have to sedate her, she is getting on the plane ( she has flying phobia at the moment) by cousin is coming from Toronto to bring her. She doesn't trust me !
Also, I have two years left on my PRC to move, so I might as well do it now in the summer.
P.S
I have started watching canadian TV Republic of Doyle
The scenery is really nice. Canada has so much diverse scenery
BTW, I bought a Dell laptop, shall I get the transformer and printer from UK or Canada ? I really need to be on the internet when I get there.

Just grab a plug adapter at the airport for your laptop.
Wifi is everywhere so no problem.
Republic of Doyle is actually reasonable tv I have had several females push it at me a couple of times.
It's good you are arriving in the summer.

Maria_747,
Don't let anyone put you off (myself included). Whatever happens, it'll be an adventure. Also, that you are forewarned that it takes a lot longer to make friends etc will make it a little easier. If you and your family get cabin fever, join some kind of a club or take classes. That way you will mingle with the natives. Also the summer in Toronto is absolutely amazing. It's like living in the south of france with much better service. Just be prepared to bite your tongue and smile nicely at times and you'll be fine.
