I'm sure you are an honest, helpful and wonderful person overall but you really should take some time and think about what you're going to say. Particularly if you're living in a country that you intend to be your home for the next nth years.
It may encourage you to do so if you got yourself a T-shirt with "Canada's military role is pathetic." written on the front and wore it to a downtown Toronto bar on a late Saturday night (dbd will let you know the best one to try). Could put the "could be filled by anyone else" bit at the back.

I don't think it would get a reaction in Toronto, I don't think people in general in Toronto are aware of that there's a Canadian military. He'd do better in Trenton or Barrie.

Many thanks for the tips James
xxdb,
Thank for the encouragement, my mother has her sisters and their direct families have been living there for many years. It is the main reasons why we are moving after my father passed away a few years ago. We were supposed to go end of 2008 but we got cold feet and we were emotionally attached to our house, neighbourhood and friends. But, now its our friends who have encouraged us to go and seek somehing new and different and be brave !
Yes, you are right, the summers are lovely there. I love Lake Simcoe.
Thanks for the tip to join some clubs, will check that out. I was also thinking re-brushing my French which will be useful if I apply for government jobs in the future. I have a couple of friends Toronto and Montreal too. I just have to try and shake of my 'londonism' out of me as I am public transport user.
I got to get used the the Toronto slang as I didn't know what a twoonie was

Being sure of what you say doesn't make it correct.

The fact of the matter is Canada likes to dabble in military operations to make it look like it is playing it's part on the international stage. The reality is their investment in military and the size of it's military is vastly understrength because it knows that it is in no danger with the United States down south.
In all honesty in a downtown Canadian bar one would probably get lots of high fives. I would be more inclined to look over my shoulder if I was in Timmins or somewhere like that.
You can take my posts what ever way you like. This thread was on Toronto which is a place I like, Canada is a place I like- but the Canadian military is insignificant.
Credit where it's due at least in Canada they are not forking out fortunes on defence and their propoganda has the majority of the population brainwashed on their international role.

Is that sorta like the UK and what Gordon Brown did for so many years??
How many friends did you lose in Iraq?? Family?
Here in Canada...we didn't lose any...OH! That's because we chose NOT to FOLLOW the Yanks...unlike the Brits...for whom shall I feel sorry for???
Sigh...you know what they say about opinions, Oink!!
Only worth what you've paid for them...but you can't argue with fact!
