I moved to Toronto in 1989 and lived there for 7 years. I've been back to visit quite a few times since - most recently a couple of months ago. I love Toronto. I found it to be a great city to live in and it remains a great city to visit - there is lots to see and do there. I've visited almost every major city in North America and Europe - Toronto ranks high on my list of favorite cities.
My sister and her husband just visited Toronto for 4 days earlier this week and they loved it despite some cloudy/rainy weather. Toronto compares very favorably with other cities. I agree with a previous poster who stated that if you don't like cities, then you won't like Toronto or any other major city. However I fail to see how anyone who likes major cities could "hate" Toronto. That just doesn't make sense to me.
Yes, there are some bad areas and bland suburbs but every major city has those.
