I got laid off two weeks before Christmas, so missed all of this season

Of all the seasons to miss, this wasn't the one

BTW Tracy is a very nice guy - he ran a coaching session for my minor team two seasons back and the kids were in awe.

I usually have an opportunity to see 1 or 2 NLL games per season but I have never went. I think I will go next time.

You don't know what you're missing - lacrosse is the best game ever.

Makes ice hockey look slo-mo and everything else look girly.

The one truly Canadian sport? (after all, ice hockey was invented by Scots immigrants who thought playing shinty on ice would be fun).

The first nations called it the "little brother of war" ... having both played and coached, I understand why.

Anyone apart from me even been to an NLL game??

Anyone else apart from me managed to get in a photo with Tracy Kelusky??
I had to google the name, I figured Tracy would be a hot chick, worth being photographed with. I'm VERY dissapointed

At Uni the lacrosse players were on the field next to us hockey players. NO WAY would I play that game! We had our fair share of injuries of course, but the ambulance was a frequent visitor to the lacrosse pitch!

Wow finally somebody with a voice of reason. You basically told it how it straight up!

Funny too how I dont see the back hoppers jumping all over this post.

Ive never seen a bigger group of sallys than soccer players, you would think half the guys had just been tased in the junk the way they go down. Really too funny how everybody ignores a comment that is so close to the truth, but it goes against their point of view so people try to let it pass and hope it magically goes away.

Good on ya Lord Vader!

Sports like Hockey and NA football cost a fair amount to play, in the case of hockey you need an indoor ice sheet. The best thing about soccer is the age of the game and the fact you only need a ball to play. It is popular because it is simple and costs nothing.

Soccer however, I just can't take that seriously. I watched a game during the last world cup. The first half hour seemed like the players were content to stand around and not venture too far into the other teams zone, then, all of a sudden, I saw one of the players moving at a half decent speed towards the goal when Cinderella cracks the heel of his glass slipper and collapses to the ground in pain. Judging from the reaction it appeared to be a shattered femur. The paramedics came trotting on to the field with the stretcher (for the third time) but it was discovered that Cinderella would pull through also and was well enough to continue. This happened 6 more times, twice more to Cinderella. In fact, the last time Cinderella got hurt his team was offered a free shot on goal from point blank range even though no one actually touched Cinderella. It was the only goal of the game.

Or is it two solitary voices in the darkness

Perhaps no one commented because those in Canada exposed to this dross are only just coming online, or are still tucked up in bed out West...

Or maybe there is nothing to add to the arguments already expressed, and responding to blatant trolling isn't particularly encouraged.

Diving in soccer is largely hated by the fans, and the sooner video replay and serious consequences for it become the norm, the better the game will be for it. If you cared for or followed soccer you would know that a crackdown on it has recently been started by the authorities, although as usual the bumbling fools that run the game have not done an effective job in applying the new directive in a fair or consistent way.

I love soccer, but that does not make me blind to some of its shortcomings. Soccer in my opinion badly needs to introduce a sin bin system to punish teams for certain yellow card offences, and it needs to do something to make the players behave more like rugby or (field) hockey players in their dealings with the ref. Far to much dissent and a lack of respect for the guy in the middle makes them all look like spoiled kids throwing tantrums. Anyone but the captain argues with the ref and the offence should be moved up the field ten yards, that would soon shut them up. But I still prefer soccer to the typical US fair, there is an ebb and flow to the game, it builds over time and there is a tactical chess game going on among the individual battles that is lost to the casual observer.

But maybe that's it, I am a casual observer of US sports, so I maybe just dont get them, not having grown up with them. The stop start nature of them is what annoys me though. You've never spent much time outside of canada, so maybe we shouldnt expect you to offer a balanced view either.

I agree Mr McCrea. Football (Soccer) is dull and the diving and tantrums are just plain silly.

Saying that, i'm biased as i've never enjoyed the game. Motorbike racing and UFC is where it's all at

Are "back hoppers" "sallys" by another name?

I hardly watch the game and certainly don't follow it but from exerts in the news and the odd World Cup match i've seen, i'm suprised these rules haven't been brought in yet.

I imagine if they did, the initial stages of adoption would be fun to watch seeing a huge chunk of the players off the field pouting

They introduced it to field hockey while I was still an active player, and we all caught on VERY fast.

Soccer players , despite not being the brightest bunch, are mostly tactically aware and will understand that it puts their team at a disadvantage, so they wont do it. They only do it now because the intimidation and cheating get them an advantage sometimes, with no discernible risk. Make it a high risk strategy to dive and talk back to the ref, and they will stop doing it PDQ, or else face the wrath of their managers... a worse fate than annoying the ref for sure!

Well, TBO soccer like most sports is fun to play, but the integrity of the game and it's entertainment value from a viewers perspective is questionable IMO. Maybe a few rule changes would spark more interest in NA.

I played "non-contact" masters lacrosse for a while and my youngest kid played minor for three seasons - it's a rough game, but okay if the refs actually call the penalties.

Yep you can't hit on the back or head ... unless of course the other player ducks or tries to dodge away

NLL punch ups are impressive too ... let's just say that fake grass isn't as slippy as ice
