We really wish that people would remember we all have busy lives and cannot read every thread, therefore cannot spot every case of abuse/bullying/rudeness/etc If people reported problems rather than just complain in within the thread we might manage to stamp out fights faster, thus meaning we would end up closing fewer threads

Its interesting to note that in some of the BE forums problems do get reported faster, and so are stamped out faster. In the Aus forums there seems to be more a culture of "Carry On Whinging"..........

We aren't psychc, and we all need help to keep the forum going in the right spirit, esp as my crystal ball is currently busy with a large number of posters in the Immigration forum who are only interested in foretelling dates of visa grant. So do us all a favour and report the problems when you see them

Quite right Polly. Some posters deserve a smack across their bare arse with the ban-stick imo.

For my two-penneth worth, I reckon this forum is pretty easy going, and a reasonable bunch with the rare fly in the ointment. Nowt to worry about really.

You want to try things like the myspace forums - jeez, that's like living in a small one-bedroom house in the middle of a war-zone with a psychotic axe-wielding homocidal maniac, thousands of adolescent chimps, several extreme religious zealots and a giraffe - and trying to stay sane and make sense of the conversation!! Some of the abuse and grief caused is just plain wrong.

Oh, and I came a cross a quote the other day which I thought was worth sharing as it summed up a fair amount of the expat process and differing attitudes:

"The future has several names. For the weak it is the impossible. For the faint-hearted it is the unknown. For the thoughtful and valiant, it is the ideal." Victor Hugo

It can't be easy being a moderator especially when everyone has a difference in opinion. Personally though, it frustrates the hell out of me when threads are closed even when posters fall out. It's a fact of life that people fall out sometimes and it's more adult to see it out than "close the door" so to speak. I find it quite childish when the threads are closed, it's almost like parental management for adults:curse: IMHO the only time a thread should be closed is if the people complain i.e it becomes a majority opinion, a democratic voice that it's gone too far. Otherwise we are all adults and either join in, argue back, ignore, leave etc. No one's forcing anyone to argue, give an opinion or stay on a thread.

If closure of threads was democratic and based on complaints then this would be less subjective and less work for mods as they wouldn't have to rely on trawling through different threads. Often Moderators are the ones who decide if it's gone too far and often against public opinion. Of course Mods reserve that right as they are the rules, however personally I find this frustrating, imposing and over bearing

Then I don't give a toss either. I just leave the site for a while till I can be bothered to engage again. This site aint that important in my life

I will do my time in the colonies (I see it as missionary work), and when the time is right I will go back to civilisation

Do you realise how much money I have made (through exchange rate changes) in the last 6 months?

It beats working.....I will be even better off when I go back HOME.
