I find that goats milk makes me feel a bit sick as it is too thick and creamy for me.
At least i have a couple of options to try now.
I love my eggs, flans e,c,t. So would really miss them if i had to cut those out.

Sorry if I wasn't very clear, ausi (and Tiddly) - I am about as intolerant to eggs as I can be. With hindsight I should have known as, the last few months before I had my tests, I really couldn't face them. Just looking at a plate of scrambles - which I always loved - made me feel ill. Don't avoid them unless you have to.
I had the Yorktests, which are really easy to do but not cheap:
http://www.yorktest.com/en/buy-a-tes...ml?ProductID=2
My doctor in Singapore did them and they cost about A$300. He just pricked my finger and sent off the test to the UK, where they produce a report on your reaction to around 100 foodstuffs. You can get the test and do it yourself I think.
BTW I'm in two minds about dairy. It's an easy way to get protein and calcium, but AFAIK we're the only animals that drink another animal's milk. I don't believe we're designed for it, which may be why so many people have problems with it. I am lactose intolerant, and my husband's sinus problems disappear when he avoids it.
As to when I put on weight - ohhh hard to tell what kicked that off.
I do know that ten years ago I was about 60kg, and at my peak I reached 84
but in that time I'd had hormone treatment for endometriosis, a hysterectomy, 3 months hardly moving and eating junk, HRT, another major operation that went wrong and another 3 months unable to exercise, a possibly undiagnosed thyroid problem....and then there's old age of course
(Since being diagnosed I've got down to 72-74kg but really struggle to get lower, although I have little appetite and have to remember to eat.)

Nic had blood taken today, should be back with GP by Tues ...
Funny thing was we asked if these tests were for EVERYTHING and the lady asked Nic what med she was on. She told her Thyroxine and the lady says "oh in that case yes, everything will be tested" ...
She went on to say how you HAVE to let the pathologist know that you are on medication or they'll think this could be your first test and just check for TSH ...
I must admit we're losing hope with this country, or maybe it's just QLD.
On another note Nic's been reading up on her AD a lot today and sure enough when you put into Google the words 'Paxtil' and 'weight gain', there's heaps of threads about how people gain all kinds of weight with this AD.
Either way her thyroid is def on the wonk so will see what GP says on Tues / Wed. Then we'll get to see Donna's GP in the next few weeks hopefully.
After that, god only knows!
If you've watched Aussie Idol tonight a bloke said by eating 3 cans of sardines a day you'll lose kilo's!! ...
I think poor Nic will try anything these days! ...

THe best diet for thyroid peeps tends to be a lower carb higher protein one. This is backed up by research as the thyroid needs the carbs for T3 conversion.
South Beach diet is good and prob the healthiest option.
Other ones which are good are Fat Flush (I have the books and can send to you if you want to borrow, save you buying if you want to read.)
Atkins at induction stage doesn't have enough carbs... but does later on if you do it properly (!)

... and I'll mention it to Nic. To be honest she pretty much knows what's good for you and bad. Maybe just generally and not thyroid related, but has always been a bit of a calorie counter so as I say knows what is what. This is why she was baffled as to not losing weight in the first place! ... but hopefully we'll be right with the ole thyroid soon ...

Not even on toast? ...

No, not even on toast. If you've got a dodgy thyroid you should really avoid gluten, so go for the gf option.

Paul, see if you can get hold of a book on nutrition. My favourite is Patrick Holford's Optimum Nutrition Bible; I also have his Low GL Diet Book and recipe book. His ideas are very similar to the South Beach Diet that Tiddly mentions; low carb not no carb, and no calorie counting.
Actually I now have an updated version - if you'd like me to post you the previous one, which has all the essentials in it, PM me your details.

Oh and the sardines on toast was for me not her! ...

Sorry to quote myself but I put this on page 1 of this thread, and I think others said much the same. Seriously, calorie counting is not the way to go.

Thanks for the offer, but we actually have a few books lying around. One Nic used to have her head in all the time, it's called 'The Food Doctor'. Dunno if good, but it has a top 100 foods and puts broccoli at the no1 spot. Personally I love the stuff ...
