Yes, go in and see her. Ask for a copy of your blood tests too. They're yours, not anyone elses and you need them for your records so you can track your health.
Sounds like you got fobbed off.

Go get 'em hon.

I think i am going to have to go back to the doctors after the weekend to have a blood test for the levels, as i am not feeling very well at all.
My throat feels very tight and constricting so i am unable to eat at all at the moment therefore i have lost about eight pounds in over a week and i am so tired and exhausted.
I have tried to balance the food situation with what i can eat and cant but seem to go up and down being ill from day to day.
I have started to be very snappy dog with everyone again and dont seem to be able to keep up with every one.
I am still waiting for my hospital appt to come through which is much needed as i know some thing is not right.
As with Tracy, you have a right to your blood test results. They're yours. Ask them for a copy or the actual tests. If you carry on being under the rule of the doctor, you haven't got a hope in Hades of taking control of what's happening to you...

Tight throat or lump in the throat on swallowing is a common 'swollen thyroid' symptom. Sounds like you are really under the weather, chick.

Hi gals (as it seems most of us are gals)

Thought I'd update you as I unwittedly started this thread more than six months ago....

Initially diagnosed back in February and put on 25mcg of thryroxine, I went back six weeks later when they told me my initial TSH reading was 13.3 but had fallen to 6. Thyroxine upped to 50mcg, back in another six weeks it was down to "4 point something"!. Upped to 75mcg, back three months later and then last week got the results - now 4.8. Now on 100mcg, though I'd actually already started taking 100mcg the day after the blood test, I was pretty sure I needed to increase. I have to go back in 2 months; the doc says she'll be happy if has fallen below 4.2.

And my cholesterol has fallen from 7.9 to 6.8. Still not good but obviously better than it was.

Every time I've felt pretty good after the dosage has been increased, then gradually gone downhill, I guess that's because your body gets used to the increase, but I have to say that having read most of this thread, keeping up to date every week or so, that I think I am one of the luckier ones as my symptoms have always been reasonably manageable. Could do with more energy and with needing less sleep, or at least sleeping soundly, and with losing weight, particularly round my middle (I've not lost a single pound in the last six months) but such is life!

I'd just like to say thanks to everyone who has posted comments and advice, but particularly to TiddlyPom, whose input has been invaluable to so many of us. TiddlyPom, you rock (karma coming your way)

Thanks Tiddlypom, i am buying all food and drinks that have vitamins in.
I am avoiding all foods that have Es in as i read some where that can upset the thyroid.
Today i feel not too bad and have managed to get out for a walk, as i thought it would do me good to get some exercise.
Next appt at the doctors i shall ask them for a copy of my print outs, will probably charge me for them.
I am just waiting for the hosp appt to come through as it looks like i have got to have a scan done.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends not taking thyroxine and multi-vitamins at the same time of the day.....just FYI

Hi louie, glad that you are feeling better and managing to sort your levels out.
I have had underactive thyroid for twenty years since my first child was born.
And have always been fine with my levels once stabilized and never a problem with my weight, always slim and couldn't put it on.
Not once have i had to go back to the doctor in twenty years about my thyroid.
But since starting HRT my weight seems to have gone up to what it should have been if not a little more, and i seem to be going all over the place with the thyroid now. so i suppose it is just a matter of getting the levels right again.
Hope all goes well for you,
aus.

I don't know whether fortified foods clinically give you much benefit. If you take your T4 at night, then you can take your vits in the morning when you wake with no problems. Iron and calcium can screw up the absorbtion though if you take them within a few hours of each other. I saw one recommendation which said avoid vitamins for 4-7 hours of taking your thyroid meds so this would mean taking them at night (the T4) last thing, on an empty stomach, would leave you clear in the morning for eating and multi's etc.

Update from me!

2nd appt with Ludka yesterday revealed high ratio of FT3 / RT3 ( no surprise there) and low Cortisol in the 24 urine test (Adrenal Fatigue).

I've already been taking 12 mg HC for the last 10 days which hasn't made any difference, so I'm hitting 20mg now (3 x 4mg first thing and 2 x 4mg midday)... fingers crossed.

I also start DHEA today and have a prescription for Dessicated Thyroid on its way to me from Dee Why!!

Onwards and upwards!

No cortisol. DHEA, natural thyroid and testosterone.

Right ok - my Free Test was low too at 1.2 (0.1 - 13.5) but I've opted to leave that for now!

My ferritin also came in pretty low but Ludka seemed happy with it - I'll query this with her I think.

Ferritin 36 (15-200)

From what I've read it should be at around 50 minimum but ideally 70-90.

hows your ferritin?

It was good last time, around the 42 mark I think... but if it's too low for you, you know....
