Hi everyone
I was just wondering if any of you ladies have suffered from mood swings. I'm only on 75mcg, as i've only been diagnosed maybe 8 weeks ago.
Yesterday I went for a walk with hubby and it was a bit of a hike, I was having a laugh and enjoying it. All of a sudden I just became so depressed, I got in a right mardy with myself. Of course I took it out on hubby, told him that going out of the house only proves how fat and ugly i am when I sweat like buggery whilst walking. Told him he should be with someone who isn't fat and moody and unable to go 3 miles without bursting into tears because i've got mud on my bloody boots.
I went home, showered and laid on the bed crying for a couple of hours. God I feel so pathetic.
Today the ache in my legs is unbelievable, its there everyday but the walk yesterday has made it worse today.
How the hell are you supposed to lose weight when you ache so much that exercise is too hard.
But looking back on it now, it was very hilly and actually i did rather well going for 3 miles in the mud up and down dale. So why throw a bad mood? I'm so sick of myself.
Anyway, thats a little rant over with. Off to docs tomorrow, just to get prescription. Bloods checked next week. Hope they put dose up.

Don't worry. The mood thing is totally normal but it's a total bugger, I agree. As if we don't have to suffer enough as it is.
If I were you, I'd explain to your other half that the mood thing is just temporary as your body gets used to the thyroid medication. It's not something you can help, you don't have any control over and that's that. He's just going to have to put up with it until you get to where you're going.
As you're on a low dose and will prob find that you even out at the 125mcg sort of area in the end, this could take a few more months.
Thyroid disease mimics depression but isn't depression .. but exercise will boost your thyroid activity too, so it's worth getting out there, even if you do mood swing on the way.
But be gentle on yourself. There are lots of things that need to be healed in your system which won't automatically happen overnight, so getting breathless and feeling like nothing's working will happen, but it is even if you can't see it or feel it.
Keep going with the exercise. You can claim it back... I couldn't walk up the street for half an hour with my new dog a couple of years back and now I run, walk 10k's without blinking, ride my mountain bike and am learning to play tennis again after a 22 year break, plus I ran the City to Surf last year... (not this year though, but def next). For me, my health and fitness are paramount. In the process, I've lost 80+lb.
So if I can do it, after nearly dying from this thing, then anyone can and you'll be just the same, but give it time.

I didn't get up 'til gone noon today - The Geek brought me a drink as he left, about 9am, and I stayed in bed until I'd finished my book. Don't tell him I actually had a good night's sleep last night

Thank you Tiddlypom
I've explained it to him that i can't control how i feel. He justs waits a day and then reruns it to me in an overexaggarate way, and makes a big comedy sketch out of it!! He's gotta be careful cause sometimes i'll laugh and othertimes he'll find wire at the top of the stairs!!

Sorry I've not been back here - am working 8 days straight, al ot of them 8am - 10pm, with an hour's commute each way!
Nic - your low TSH means that there is too much thyroxine in the body. As others have said, it takes some time for the thyroxine levels to drop down..I can't remember the half-life, but I think that it's 20 days...its something like that.
I'm off this coming weekend - I'll make the time to come back here with more info.

Well to update with Nic.
We see a new doctor on Saturday at the local surgery and he seems REALLY good ...
He's a Pom from somewhere in the Midlands ...
Anyway, well it's been an interesting few days to say the least. We see him for a 2nd opinion on Nic's tests and he seems to think Nic's thyroid results are good. Her T4 is now in range, and he explained (as Mrs Jackaroo & Ozzidoc has already said to me) how Nic's TSH is really low cos of the almost over dose of Thyroxine @ 200mcg a day! he said this isn't necessarily a high dose, but for her it is!! We're gonna to TSH, T4 AND T3 again in 6 weeks or so as her last test was very influenced by the months of 200mcg a day!
His opinion is 100mcg a day might be her ideal dosage, but next tests will confirm.
Incidentally, since she's been on 100mcg a day (few weeks now) she's DEF slowed down, and not almost speeding all the time ...
... phew! ...
... and seems to have more energy ...
Now the interesting bit!
Nic said to him "well why am I STILL not losing any weight!!" and he had a little look at her history, and see her anti D tab (Paxil) and said 70 or 80% of people gain weight with this drug. To be honest we'd read it can but he seemed to think without doubt that the tab will be the cause of the weight not shifting, especially after long term usage (2.5 years).
After a few days Googling the drug name and 'weight gain' ... well, it's getting close to a possibly 100% to blame.
Now the dilemma! ...

I still don't see a test for that by the doctor. It's not an 'either/or' situation. You really need to rule it out as a possibility so that Nic can get the best treatment.
On the doc front, it sounds like you have a nice one, so lets hope he can help. At least you've already had some good answers from him.

I'm a bit peed off. Went for blood tests on Tuesday. Just rang for the results and the receptionist said they were "low". She went off to have a word with the doctor, came back and said "the doctor wants you to stay on 75mcg, but come back for more bloods in 2 weeks". Its not my usual doctor just one she went and spoke to. I don't know why but i was kinda hoping they would up my dose again. My normal doc knows i'm still aching and tired etc so she would've probs asked to see me. Shall i go in and see her, do you think?

Well you need to ask your GP for antibody tests to make sure that Nic hasn't got auto immune thyroid problems, which as I mentioned in an earlier post, is linked to depression issues.

I myself dont get to see any test results from my thyroid blood test, the doctors up or down the level to what the results come back. So i would not have a clue to what they read.
I think i am going to have to go back to the doctors after the weekend to have a blood test for the levels, as i am not feeling very well at all.
My throat feels very tight and constricting so i am unable to eat at all at the moment therefore i have lost about eight pounds in over a week and i am so tired and exhausted.
I have tried to balance the food situation with what i can eat and cant but seem to go up and down being ill from day to day.
I have started to be very snappy dog with everyone again and dont seem to be able to keep up with every one.
I am still waiting for my hospital appt to come through which is much needed as i know some thing is not right.
