Problem with one beds in the city or studios they are mostly only for student accommodation. Further out East Melbourne, West Melbourne, Fitzroy, Richmond, North Melbourne you could have a look at and get an idea of rents. Depends on the block, up to date, or out of date really.

Re: Sydney VS Melbourne
I think this sums up the two cities for me:
Sydney's the girl you date.
Melbourne's the woman you marry.
I think the Opera Houses in both cities sum them up too.
Sydney's Opera House is all glitz and glamour on the outside with a pretty ordinary interior.
Melbourne's Opera House is very ordinary on the outside but the deeper you delve into it the richer it gets.

Yes, but Sydney's rain comes in short bursts so it seems sunny for longer. I am not really knocking Melbourne, just trying to say that I like Sydney.

Re: Sydney VS Melbourne
No shags in Melbourne then.
Melbourne's new mayor described Sydney as a city with a wallet not a soul and Greater Brisbane being an Oxymoron.
As a Sydney sider I am obliged have to say is that Melbourne is a rainy dump with rubbish food, black clothes and pretentious wannabe Europeans. The ocean is cold and you all drink way too small beers.
Other than that I enjoyed my trip earlier in the year. I got in the plane in Sydney and it was over 30C. I got off in Melbourne and it was 5C. Walking around the CBD reminded me of London.

I love Sydney too - if I were young and single, it would be hard to choose between to two. I really don't think the weather, for me, would come into it much.

The weather is not generally THAT different - what day did you experience that.

That was in Sep or Oct when I was on business. We had a heat wave in Sydney and you guys had a bit of a southerly. I could live in all three cities easily. Sydney's biggest issue is over priced accomodation and crap transport where housing in reasonable.

Have been in Sydney for 4 months and live in Northern Beaches area- it is great here. I have not been to Melbourne but OH has and got very wet and cold. Sydney is definitely warmer, though a little more humid at times, but nothing like as bad as we were told IMHO. There have only been two days when I wanted the air con on- only to find it wasn't working! (NVM just jumped in the pool instead)
OH is in IT here on a decent salary. Housing is expensive in our area, a bit like a leafy home counties suburb, but the schools are good, people friendly and helpful, and transport links also good. Not sure how the jobs market is for IT in the current state of things.
