Re: Sydney VS Melbourne
How many number of days in a year it rains in Melbourne and Sydney?
Tell me roughly just roughly, is it 100 days rain a year in Melbourne
We wished, if that was the case we wouldn't be in one of the worst droughts in living memory.
Up until a couple of weeks ago it hadn't rained since before Christmas

Re: Sydney VS Melbourne
Just lived in Sydney (Eastern Suburbs Surry Hills then Woollahra) for 3 years and just moved to Melbourne (Hawthorn) due to work. The best thing I can say about Melbourne is that I found that Australia offered very little in terms of trips away for the weekend when I lived in Sydney, bog standard hotels, places that failed to impress after days of travelling etc, but now that I live in Melbourne it is for the first time genuinely exciting to get on a plane and visit somewhere else for the weekend - Sydney. Apart from that, I'd live in Sydney if I were you, if you want to live in a European city then live in Europe as Melbourne is not it!

Your feedback does make sense. So you are indirectly suggesting that we move to Melbourne as it is 2nd largest financial capital in Oz and therefore not much affected as Sydney is.
So you said you work in accounts dept. and what have you heard about guys working in the IT department. Have you seen or heard any scope for the IT people in Melbourne.
Pls advice.

well i am living in melbourne for an year now...and work as accountant in accounting firm...i usually wonder if being in sydney will be better for my career, sydney being much bigger financial centre. But the financial centre has taken a beating globally so sydney being a relatively bigger financial centre is more hurt than melbourne....any comments/advise??

Definitely, and I have experienced those three in a day in London too.
But when people from the UK hear the stereotype "4 seasons in one day" it doesn't really give them a real feeling for what it is really like, does it?
I think "England plus 10 degrees and loads more sunshine" would be a better phrase.

Melbourne's weather is quite a bit warmer than the UK equivalent especially in summer. Spring and autumn can be perfect. In winter, it is like Buzzy says. Get a decent wood burner and enjoy it. I'd say that as soon as you are sick of summer or winter, autumn and spring arrive!
In winter, traditionally it might rain in Melbourne once every 2/3 days, if memory and analysis serves. Melbourne and Adelaide get winter rain with their particular temperate climate, Sydney and Brissy get it in the summer. Since 2006 winter rain has failed big time. I recall endless wet days or nights in 2004, less in 2005.
