NSW Ambulance service

Nice one, congrats!!
Been trying to figure out the structure over there. What's the difference between ICP and Specialist Para?
From what I can gather from their web site and prev phone calls, is it ICP level and then you diversify to a specialist role such as S.C.A.Teams etc?

ICP and Specialist Paramedic are one and the same as far as I'm aware.(Spec.Para being the latest version).
Just like any ambulance service, they love to change titles just for the sake of it!!
I remember way back when I was an Ambulance man!!
Cheers mate and good luck with your application

With regards to the Light Rigid licensing requirements:
If you are on a Perm visa, you will need to get a C class licence from the RTA first ($145). You then need to sit a LR Driver Knowledge Theory test ($36) and then get a Competency Based Assessment Log Book ($21). Then have to spend a day getting assessed driving a small bus to hopefully complete your log book ($750 approx). You can then upgrade your C licence to LR. The service did say to us that we had 2 months to get this on our arrival but we were told that we would need it by week 6. They will be changing any other job offer letters.
These costs can be claimed against tax on annual return as business expenses so keep receipts.
If on a temp visa, you cannot apply for a NSW licence until after 6 months but will have to get LR on after this.
You can drive an ambulance on a NSW class C licence(car). The service requires all new employees to get LR to drive the buses they have to transport staff around to major incidents etc.

Hey there,, just wondering how you guys got the 100 or 120 necessary points for the permanent residence visa?! Could you tell something about that issue? I am 36, passed IELTS with an overall band score of 7.0, working as a fulltime ICP since 1994, singl, not married, no children, no relatives etc. in Oz.
Thanks for your help,

You can only get a tax file no after you have arrived in OZ as they check with Immigration to see if your visa has been activated on arrival. Just leave it blank and apply for one as soon as you arrive!!
Go to your Occupational health. They will have your Hep B status and you can ask them to send you for bloods for some of the others asked for. Otherwise just go to your Dr.'s and ask for the vaccinations. The only one you may have a problem with is the DPT. If you can't have it done, the infection control nurse will give it in your 1st week along with any others you may need and a Mantoux test for TB. It's not a problem as the nurse is really thorough and understanding.
All the best with the application

If you go to the RTA website, you can do practice LR Driver knowledge tests and see the bank of questions they get picked from. My test was exactly the same as one of these and should be no problem if you do them a few times. Just got my LR.

swigski, do you know if ASNSW has RSI in their protocols for every ICP or is it limited to "special" ICPs?
