Perhaps I am still UK bias (after 15 or so years), but it costs 100 bucks to fill up a Benz SUV with 93. Laughably cheap (4.6x I think USD). Recently had a rental and 87 was 3.69, again laughably cheap. What am I missing?

Here in NorCal, the range runs from 3:87 at Costco to 5:09 at Chevron. Typical prices seem to be 4:79 to 4:99. Costco works for me!

My Toyota Venza Hybrid SUV (very similar to the Toyota RAV4) is consistently getting 39 mpg on suburban driving. 39 mpg US = roughly 49 mpg UK. Not bad for a fairly large vehicle.

Well basic unleaded reached $4 in 2008, so 16 years later, gas is incredibly cheap (I'm currently paying around $3.10 +/- 5c for unleaded and steadily right on $3.77 for 93 octane), and I really don't understand why some political agitators are citing gas prices as an example of "high inflation", .... other than that they're political agitators.

Paid 3.03 yeaterday for regular unleaded (net of 12c discount for using my Exxon card), and 3.67 for 93 octane (also net of the 12c discount), which is the cheapest it's been in several weeks.

It was empty day of return, so I thought I would put 40 USD of 87 in, which should be close enough. At 39.87 USD, it filled the tank.... I laughed internally and immediately text my Mum to wind her up! I didnt realize 30 USD would 3/4 fill a Compass!!!

It had better be, I've put 190k of its miles on the clock and I think it might have made its displeasure known by now.
I think if it were any other truck of that age that it would probably run on a higher octane but the 2nd generation Tundra is a bit of an agricultural beast that was dated even when it was new.

Eyeballed a couple of stations in Asheville NC near the airport today that were at $2.88, that's cheaper than a lot of places just across the state line in SC, despite the fact that NC state taxes on gas are higher than SC. $0.38/G as opposed to $0.24/G in SC.
