I gather from this exchange that your level of education is not very high, for I had made it abundantly obviously that I was attempting to serve as a sort of cultural interpreter for your benefit.

In case you haven't figured it out, I'm not exactly a flagwaver, and I've spent quite a bit of time both here and abroad and have friends in the UK, so I often understand where you're coming from, even if I don't always agree with it. At the same time, I also realize that you don't always have the depth of experience here to quite comprehend the quirks of American society, so I'm tossing a few background notes in your direction, so that you might better understand it, even if you choose not to ultimately like what you've learned.

You might have an easier time waking up if your head wasn't so firmly inserted in such a dark place, but sadly for you, proctology is not one of my fields of expertise.

 Ostrich.

"I gather from this exchange that your level of education is not very high."

Why? Several people on the thread have pulled you up on specific factual points. I studied history at degree level and I find your argument less than cohesive and convincing.

I notice that you completely ignore any facts I've mentioned, that in itself makes it crystal clear that you have no possible response to them. As for me not comprehending anything you said...I fully comprehended that you have a rose tinted view of your own history. Far from having the common sense to say that it was ALL the allies that defeated the axis powers you went on to say ridiculously that the US could've done it on their own. Then went on to explain what a fantastic victory Vietnam was for the US because they killed more of the enemy than were killed themselves then compounded that by saying it was the US (alone) that defeat Iraq and went that historical innaccuracy was pointed out you again turned a blind eye. It is that sort of attitude from certain unworldly and illinformed USC's that get the average Brits hackles up and do the more intelligent citizens of your country a great disservice.

In short, your abit of a obnoxious wanker. I know I am..but thats my intention...yours is purely natural.

Best reply yet, thanks

Ohmigawdithinki'mgoingtorunmyheadintoawall.

I'm just curious: do you have idea what I was saying when I said this:

You obviously missed the numerous occasions when I indicated quite clearly that I was articulating the views of the society, and not necessarily my own.

Or this:

I had made it abundantly obviously that I was attempting to serve as a sort of cultural interpreter for your benefit.

Or this, in respect to the motivations of the average citizen:

It's therefore important to convince them that the cause is noble AND that they are uniquely positioned to fix it in order to get them to participate.

Obviously, when I am speaking in the third person, I am not speaking about myself! (I believe this is common to most English speakers.)

As for any anti-American revisionism on this thread, I'm sorry if the US was blessed with a large population and secure geographic locale that served it (and the UK) well during the world wars, but there you have it. No amount of wishful thinking is going to change that. There's no point in allowing egos to justify a rewriting of history.

I think that I sufficiently covered that it was really the Soviets and the Americans who made the most difference, as they had the manpower and materiel necessary to take on the Germans. That doesn't mean that everyone else deserves a snubbing, it just means that some nations played a more pivotal role than others. Surely we're not going to claim that the Free French and the Soviets had the same impact, just because both of them participated.

In any case, most of us posting here weren't even alive at the time, so it's not as if any of us can take credit or blame, either way.

So are you saying, the British had little or nothing to do with winning WW11? Not sure why the Brits bothered to show up.

Your first post on the thread begins, "I realize that this is a bit of a sore point with you, but based upon the historical facts of the war, do you honestly believe that the Commonwealth would have been able to defeat the Germans without outside help? The numbers make it pretty obvious that this wasn't the case."

That makes it seem like your view, to me. Where is the interpreting bit?

Also #25: "In my mind, the definitive turning points in Europe were El Alamein, Stalingrad and Normandy. The Allied bombing campaign wasn't a turning point per se, but it caused the Germans enough destruction and diverted resources to affect their ability to carry on. "

#62
"I am the first to admit that the Soviets played a decisive role in the European war (as you will see if you read back on this very thread), but exactly how is this a point of pride?"

By post #126, "First of all, have a good wank and calm down. I'm obviously not trying to justify anything, I'm simply explaining history, which it should be evident that I happen to know more than a little something about. "

I have still seen no mention that your posts are not your own opinion. In fact, you specifically refer to your specialist knowledge, which you are incidentally rather rude about.

In 128, you even say, "Those are all factual statements, not opinions..."

Ploughing on through, I still can't see where you dissociate youself from the opinions expressed. You appear to just be getting more irate and less sensible as the thread goes by.

I'm not sure anymore, maybe the British troops all went on a long (really long) vacation. Cheeky buggers.
