Dont talk daft. What you and a lot of your fellow countrymen fail to realise is that in 1939 Britain was the Worlds superpower not the US. Infact the US armed forces was the about the same size as the Romanian army. You had virtually nothing in the way of modern warfare equipment, infact you still had 10,000 Cavalry horses. The Dutch were a larger and better equipped force than the US in 1939 and Hitler walked through them in litttle more than a week.

The size of a nation armed forces isn't anything compared to a nations ability to produce a large army the US had the Science industry commercial and population to produce a army . the Germans new this then if the US would have moved to a policy of total war sooner that US could have been a major player right from the begging of the conflict . Lets not forget the US you say that didn't have modern equipment was helping supply the UK and USSR through the Land Lease act . the US at the time only start to flex a little in order to produce one of the worlds greatest armed forces .

but to be honest i am a t afraid the US is losing that ability .

to say this is to misunderstand the whole crux of the Nazi "philosophy". They were basically always going to invade the USSR, no matter what. Without the Nazis' underlying plan to conquer everything to the east of Germany to give the German people their "lebensraum" there probably wouldn't have been a WW2 in the first place.

How can you possibly have been a major player from the beginning when I have just told you that Holland had a bigger and better equipped army at the beginning. Are you not understand the word "beginning". As for modern equipment you were supplying us with your antiquated ships and a few new tanks but mostly raw materials so we could build our own guns, tanks aircraft. As for you having the science...thats bloody funny, actually laughable. there were the Germans building rockets, cracking nuclear fission for weaponry and patrol within 5 miles of the eastern seaboard of the USA and you had 10,000 cavalry horses.

As for "worlds greatest armed forces" maybe in terms of numbers but not so much in the terms of achievement or capability.
