I haven't had that pleasure
I guess some of the trance-type music is French. (Is it? No idea really)

No clue - but be glad you haven't had that ... pleasure ... it's scary stuff!

Though I always thought the Spice Girls were scary too. ;)

You have now fallen greatly in my estimation.

I'm presuming it's a gentle ribbing which is nonetheless tiresome. Kids at school kept calling my son "Joe English", it wasn't meant unkindly but it really annoyed him. So I took it that OP just wanted a couple of good ripostes. As manc said, AJP Taylor-style analysis was not required.

Thank you. that's exactly the point I was trying to make a few pages ago.

Sadly no. I wish I did. We do have family friends in Provence, but I made my French friends as a teenager and unfortunately I don't know where they are today. Your comments about the French reminded me of something someone in France told me about the British years ago ... "they think they are better than we are because they have a Queen". I still think that's funny. :)

Believe it or not, but there aren't many French people in Cincinnati. ;) The only time I get to use my French now is when someone wants me to proof something at work that will be used in Quebec, and Canadian French is NOT the same as Parisian French. Probably like British vs. American English.

They speak joual there, which is a wee bit different. I swear in it here (I mean at work) when I get really po'ed. Nobody knows what I'm saying so, no harm done.

Well, you had me fooled. Given that you clearly didn't comprehend anything I said, I'd say that your literacy skills are a wee bit challenged. Tell me, is it difficult to be fluent in no languages?

I think that your average Francophone Quebecois would take offense to it being referred to as "joual" (which I believe is a derivation of "cheval," meaning horse.) But yes, it is certainly different from Parisian French, and I personally can't get past the accent. Tabernac.

Where are you getting your facts from? The only member of Congress to vote against the U. S.' entry into WWII against Japan (after Pearl Harbor, of course) was Sen. Jeanette Rankin of Montana, and after Germany declared war on the U. S. she merely abstained from voting on the declaration against them.

Do a google search - FDR/threat of impeachment - and you'll discover the GOP openly discussed it to punish FDR for talking with Winston Churchill pre-war about Hitler and the setting up of an intelligence network (OSS - Bill Donovan?). Without that intelligence, we would have been in a piss poor position. Read the book - 'A Man called Intrepid' - fascinating stuff. On the vote issue, I may be wrong about it being a vote to go to war - tho' war was declared on USA first anyway. Maybe the vote was about the whole intelligence thing - it's in the book.

I did, in fact, and turned up nothing of any significance, but I was referring to your statement about the U. S. barely entering the war.
