What kind of bread are you using? Cant say I have ever had that issue unless using an odd size bread like a bun or sub type bread.

Regular white Wegmans own brand loaf, with a couple slices of ham and cheese. Suddenly it was too thick to close and had to squish it a bit to get it in the bag.

Edit - do people from Phoenix actually refer to themselves as Phoenicians? I hope they do.

They do but then my kindle tried to autocorrect it. There is the Phoenician resort just near me, very fancy.

Didn't notice an auto correct. I think it's quite funny that the inhabitants of a landlocked desert city are referred to by the name of a great seafaring civilization.

Actually, if you believe some stories, actual Phoenicians may have mined a bunch of copper in Michigan once upon a time. Maybe they went to what would later become Phoenix too. Mind blown ...

Lucky you.

Round here they just pass through, then they come back through headed north around six months from now. It's another thing I like about here: winters are fairly mild, but not mild enough to attract roosting snowbirds.

Oddly enough this year new sea food restaurants are the big thing.

It's normally always better to buy sea food near to the sea.

I know, that's what worries me. I know a few places where I would trust to get seafood because I know they fly it in daily. The others, I'm not so sure about.

Having lived in the town heralded as the home of modern fishing and made a living from repairing trawlers I would say don't worry about it too much!!!
Not only do I have a good chuckle at the telly adverts who claim 'fresh fish', when the haul can spend at least a good few days in the hold packed in ice before it is even landed but if you ever fancy a stomach churning experience you want to see if the skipper will give you access to his hold when the boat is in port and 'cleaned' out 'ready' for sea!!!

People are so stuck up about frozen meat and seafood. I guess it comes from when they try to defrost giant balls of meat like a turkey, and get food poisoning. Most seafood has been frozen and thawed before you buy it "fresh" anyway.

The way I look at it is, it was fresh when it was frozen so it's still fresh when I defrost it.

People have to know that large-scale fishing boats don't just come back to port at the end of the day and offload, right, that they fill their tanks first? Surely everyone's seen at least one episode of Deadliest Catch

Oh I know all that. I'd probably more worried about mislabeled seafood where they pass off cheap farmed stuff as wild or even a completely different fish.

Quite. When in UK I often buy tuna for sushi, and if it's just been defrosted it's usually excellent.

Goes for fruit and veg, too. Especially berries, which generally seem perfectly ripe after defrosting. + Greek yoghurt, mmm...

Dunno what you mean...Sometimes my meaning just sort of drifts off...into the eddies of the space time continuum............
