Re: Pet Peeves?
Urgh, bad drivers. Behind a guy going 60 in a 55mph road. Fine, I can sit behind him, no need to overtake despite the opportunity. Then as he gets alongside another car he slows to 50mph. It's a rolling roadblock for the next ten miles. Speed limit becomes 45mph, the other car makes a turn, there's space to overtake. He speeds up to 55mph. What the hell is wrong with people. Neither consistently fast or slow.

Usually for me it's the arseholes that tailgate on two-lane roads (or, for even more arseishness, the ones who don't move into the passing lane to go round you on a four-lane road). I'm usually, depending on the road, sitting between 5-10 over. That's where I'm normally comfortable I won't get a ticket and that's where I am staying, unless I'm in an area known for stops, then I'm usually on the dot or less than 2 over. Without fail, some cocksocket will come zooming into view in the rear mirror and you can always tell the ones who are about to try to anally probe you by the way they approach. Utter jizz-cocks, the lot of them. A few will get the message that I'm not going to speed up for them and they'll back off but some just won't. I won't brake check them, because of the legal minefield if they hit me, but I will ease off until I'm exactly at the speed limit again and have no issues letting inclines slow me down a few more mph if the need arises. I am not getting what these days is probably a $200 ticket just because some fleck of knob cheese can't plan his day accordingly. Then to make it worse, we're in a passing zone clear of oncoming traffic and they don't have the decency to go around me, as they obviously love being in my arse so much. They want to drive fast but they're not brave enough to actually overtake? Wankers. Every last one. |

I also do wonder if some cars have optional speedometers because people don't seem to match speed of the vehicle with posted speed limit. My wife and I have come to the conclusion the popularity of traffic lights in the US make Americans, laid back drivers with no place to be. |

I don't think they teach people how to overtake in the US.
Best one was a guy tailing me on a 30 road: main street in a small town with bus stops, potential for pedestrians, known police stop hotspot, somewhere I will stay at, or very close to the limit on. Well he's not having it and right as we cross a railway, he swings right out and around me. I think at that point it was still striped as no passing. Anyway, what he didn't see was the police car parked in the laundrette car park just ahead of us, and since I was already at 31/32, I guess he did enough and managed to get pulled over right away. I pissed myself laughing the rest of the way into work that morning :D

There, virtually nobody obeys the 'slower vehicles keep right' rule, especially lorries. Nothing better than a lorry overtaking another lorry and getting in everyone's way. Then when you are ready to pull out and overtake legally and properly (I should add usually here, I'm 10-15 over unless out of state), with every intention of moving right again when done, some utter douchenozzle just has to ride your bumper during the entire overtaking maneuver as if you only pulled out in that lane with the express intent of getting in his special snowflake way, and not to go around the bloke at 45 having a wank. Or my personal favourite - people who sit in the left late just off your rear quarter, matching your speed exactly so you are unable to pull out to overtake the slow driver in front of you. Cocknobs. |
Re: Pet Peeves?
Knobs who drive at 45 in a 60 zone (with no chance of you overtaking them), and then proceed at the same speed through a 30 zone, disappearing into the distance.
And those who slow down to 40 in a clearly-signed 50 zone when they pass speed cameras. Also, in general, anyone who's in front of me and not going as quickly as me, or anyone who's behind me who believes I should be going quicker than I am. I think that's covered pretty-much everyone... |

I did have a strange one yesterday, a lady just decided to do a stop at a level crossing, treating like a 4 way stop. This was on a 35 road. Maybe she was a school bus driver. |

I'm surprised how common this is. Here the common speed seems to be 35 everywhere, 25,35 and 45 zones.

Re: Pet Peeves?
About this time of year all the snowbirds come into town. Not that phonecians are good drivers to start with but now all the old out of state drivers make it worse.

Could that be the reason they make different size bags? My good lady keeps about 4 different sizes of ziplock bag for just such occasions, the largest of which could house a small roast chicken...or are we talking 'Man vs food' type sandwiches?

Edit - do people from Phoenix actually refer to themselves as Phoenicians? I hope they do. |
