Ted Cruz is a good stalking horse though, lots of people like him for some reason. Scares me a little.
To quote the first post of this thread, see I knew he didn't have the right stuff.

I have seen commentators suggesting the "third party Rep ticket played as spoiler so that no one gets a majority of electoral college votes and it goes to Congress" is on again.

I'm not sure.

I have no idea what that means.

Isn't calling him that no different to slagging Obama off for being Kenyan/Muslim, both of which are more recently applicable to his heritage than the name Drumpf is to Trump?

What's the difference exactly other than hypocrisy? If Trump was African American, would you be calling him by his original slave name?

If no one candidate gets 271 Electoral votes the election is thrown into the House of Representatives and the House chooses who is to become President.

Well, duh, you do realize that John Oliver was raising Trump by his own racist petard by calling him Donald Drumpf?

Well, duh, I wouldn't know, I don't watch unfunny Brit comedians. There was enough of them on TV when I lived in the UK

I would suggest John Oliver's joke is lost on a lot of those who call Trump that

I would also reiterate my question, would the anti Trump brigade be casually calling him by his slave name if he were African American? The answer is obviously know which highlights hypocrisy on a laughable scale

Glad the space lizard has dropped out, but it is a bit worrying that there is almost no chance of a contested GOP conference and that Trump is about to become the nominee.

So is there a better prospect for an independent third party ticket this year than there has been for....a long time?

Could a carefully chosen pairing collect both the unhappy Republicans and unhappy Democrats and a swathe of the middle ground?

Or does the political system implode even further?

I'm not sure you could find a candidate or a platform that would bring together unhappy Republicans and unhappy Democrats because they are unhappy for such different reasons.

That being said, I do suspect Gary Johnson and Jill Stein might pick up a few extra votes this year if it does come down to Trump vs Clinton in November (assuming both are running, I think they are).

The part where Cruz punched and then elbowed his wife in the face after conceding is an oddly apt end to his campaign.

I'm not sure.
I can't see a scenario in which the Democrats get fewer than 270 electoral votes. The issue at this point is the degree of the GOP's defeat, not whether it happens.

Clinton vs. Trump.

I can't wait for months of detailed and nuanced debates about policy differences.

But let's not forget about John Kasich who is now 4th in a two man race.
