I suspect they'll be a call to ban something. Kimchi maybe.

I think everyone is still analyzing the seismic data and waiting for satellite imaging to come in.

From what I've read so far it is 4.9-5.1 on the richter scale which is a similar magnitude to previous tests. i.e. very small for an alleged h-bomb. Even the previous tests were considered small for a-bombs and may have fizzled.

I read an analysis a while back suggesting at least one previous test may have been faked with conventional explosives shoved down a mine shaft. Part of that analysis being that the Ryonchon train disaster was a delivery for such a test.

It's just the same old games that they've played for years: start up a reactor, make a bomb, agree to shut the operation down in return for food and money.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

Only thing that seems to change the length of the cycle of who is in charge of the US, Japan and S Korea at the time.

It will be interesting to see how the Republican presidential candidate 'hawks' are going to straighten Kim Jong Un out.

I read (on reddit of all places, but it's a good source for news) that the magnitude was consistent with recent Chinese and Indian underground tests, and if it were an H-bomb, would put it somewhere around the 10KT range.

Now, the reasoning for this was that they may be low on fissile material and kept the test device small. It could be fake, it is likely it was, but it's not something to just brush under the carpet either, especially because a US ally is right in the firing line of any potential weapon.

The cry wolf scenario is the go to, but I suppose one still has to treat each case as if it might be the real one.

Nobody is going to sort NK out though, because neither the US, South Korea, China, Russia or Japan want to deal with 25 million unskilled, undernourished, PTSD refugees flooding the gates.

Plus the fact that NK is just about nuts enough to use nukes if they actually have viable ones.

That's exactly how it will go.

Of course, if they do that, South Korea will quickly become an island, but it's still an if.

If anything goes wrong, the entire Korean peninsula will be obliterated. Seoul is only 30 miles from the border.

It'll almost certainly end up as posturing, because NK would destroy itself if it did attach Seoul.

What we should be more concerned with is proliferation, should they actually have a genuine nuclear program.

What an arsehole. I'm no fan of Cruz, but if the best thing you can come up with to oppose him is that he was born in Canada, then you're probably wasting your time even running.

If Republicans don't care then it very easily exposes how fake their outrage was about Obama's birthplace.
